MARRY ME comic page

Page 7: First Hour

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

As always, Eisu comes through with a great page, and just in time before Friday ended too! For those who weren’t sure, this page is actually a montage of many different songs, showing the first hour or so of the concert. Every time we see a song lyric (four of them on this page), it’s from a different song. I tried to show that in a few ways, like by having her on the stage with her dancers and then suddenly up in the air, and then back down on the stage, but I’m not sure it came across properly. Gonna be a lot more clear in the movie!

My brother put up the new page last night because I was super sick and trying to go to sleep. Still sick this morning, but feeling better than yesterday at least for the moment.

hahaha, cmon Gary! you know you wanna! Demand that raise!

  2. Elle Says:

Wow, that sounds like a mashup of every pop song cliche there is. Good work!

  3. Namsab Says:

    Who? XD
That made me laugh out loud. ;D
    I wish I could hear the music…

  4. Steve Says:

I find it so Ironic that she’s thinking ” Don’t Drop Me, Gary! ” And yet singing ” I don’t need you ” xD Good thing Gary didn’t take that in the wrong way.

  5. Sid Says:

lol, Parker even knows the name of the cable guy. a real fan

  6. Delos Says:

Lol, that’s really great. I wish I coud hear the song too.

I love how Parker knows about Gary. :]

  7. Paralda Says:

    *waits*

  8. Tamanegi Says:

Parker knows everything about her… probably that she’s fed up with dating, too!

  9. Bobby Crosby Says:

Hey, guys, I was super sick last night and my brother updated (and named!) the page for me while I was sleeping/vomiting. I might rename it, not sure yet. Gonna make a post of my own in a minute!

  10. MB Says:

hahah ! So funny ! Marry Me only starts but I already love it :)

  11. meagan Says:

I almost wanna think the last two pannels are the same song

  12. Bobby Crosby Says:

Well, the last two panels could be the same song, sure. Doesn’t matter much either way. And yeah, they look like they could go together.

  13. Shannon Says:

I love this cpage! Especially the first panel with her face in the big screen!

  14. Outshined Says:

Yeah, the idea of a montage of different songs is a really difficult idea to get across in a comic.

Since this is a concert, maybe you could play around with the idea of different lighting effects to show the mood of the different songs?

It’s subtly hinted at here because she is backlit in the last panels, but you could play around with spot lighting, saturated colored light, high contrast, etc, and get away with it because of the setting.

  15. David Kastrup Says:

He, “Guy” reminds me of (hope the link is not just temporary, otherwise try and try working your way from there).

  16. Bobby Crosby Says:

Not seeing any link, David. Reminds you of who?

  17. Duckity Says:

I like the montage. I thought it might’ve been different songs, but considering that Outshined is right, it is hard to show difference between songs (without like major costume and setting changes) in a comic. I liked it though, can’t wait for more. :)

  18. Tássia Says:

I’ve started reading the comic last week and I’m enjoying it very much! Can´t wait to see where it goes… :D

I’m writing because I wanted to say I didn’t realize that it was different songs, and I thought about a suggestion… I think that the idea of the composition and the cuts from scene to scene were a great call, they realy show that there is a jump in time… but I think the idea of different songs could across even better if there was a difference in color or shape on the song lyrics balloon ^^ To me, the similarity between them is what made me think it was different parts in time of the same song…

    Hope I don’t come across as rude :P I can’t say I have much experience with comics, but this suggestion came to mind and I thought no harm could come in sharing it ^^;

Loving the comic ^^ Keep the great work :D

  19. FreeSample Says:

Maybe a silly sugestion, but perhaps a digital clock near each scene would be better to show that there’s different songs being sang here :)

  20. j Says:

wish gary would drop her so this pice of crap would end and whats blood moon

  21. Sai Says:

    “I will fly one day”

Sick reference to that one suicide/scam post on the 2+2 board? ;)

  22. cash Says:

    maybe a silly question,

but who’s going to write the songs for the movie? -_-

  23. David Kastrup Says:

Hm, seems like the links got stripped from the posting. Does this work better?

  24. Bobby Crosby Says:

Tassia, we used your suggestion — thanks!

J, what do you mean by “blood moon”?

  25. Killifix Says:

    Brilliant. Just brilliant

  26. Bobby Crosby Says:

“but who’s going to write the songs for the movie?”

Who knows. The budget for this film is too big for me to make myself, so it would have to be some studio, and I doubt I’d have much influence. Probably depends a lot on who stars in it. If Mandy Moore stars, it’ll be her team of people maybe. Same for Hilary Duff or whoever it might be.

“Sick reference to that one suicide/scam post on the 2+2 board?”

    It is, yes. Love that.

  27. Alaindelon Says:

heeeyy!! Quite attractive comic and judging from your comic’s name, this looks like its heading for an interesting premise and storyline! You have another guy camping here now hehe..

  28. Tamanegi Says:

Wait… you were serious about a movie? A real, professional one? Just wow…

  29. Bobby Crosby Says:

Well that’s the ultimate goal. Just look at the domain name — marrymeMOVIE.com. It’s a long shot obviously, but you never know.

  30. Elle Says:

I’m not sure Mandy Moore would do the movie, she seems really unhappy about the pop star she used to be. She said herself that she feels bad for all the people who wasted their money on her music. Who knows, though? Personally I would have thought Britney could have filled Stasia’s role quite well, but she probably won’t live long enough to see the movie being made. And I mean pre-crazy Britney, when she was still all sugar and candy and not so… well, crazy.

  31. Elle Says:

Oh actually, you know who would be great, if it were even physically possible? Madonna back in her early years.

  32. Mewt Says:

    Lol…

I somehow doubt any -actual- current pop idol would do it…

Answer? Watch for new, cute, blonde haired American Idol chicks. :O

  33. Bobby Crosby Says:

“I’m not sure Mandy Moore would do the movie, she seems really unhappy about the pop star she used to be.”

That’s a good reason for her to possibly do it. This story certainly doesn’t glorify that lifestyle. It shows how it can make a girl insane, among other things!

“I somehow doubt any -actual- current pop idol would do it…”

That’s probably the only way it would actually get made, if a current pop idol did do it. If Garth Brooks could devote a year or two to Chris Gaines, there’s certainly a chance that some young pop star would play this role.

  34. Cora Says:

I got that it was a montage of different songs. I guess I assumed because the lyrics were different colors… If that makes sense…

  35. Bobby Crosby Says:

Cora, originally the lyrics were the same colors, but then Tassia suggested to change the colors in a comment here, and we decided to do that.

  36. Gretchen Says:

been reading for a while…first post time. ;)
ah….the pop star tired of being in the news and on everyones lips…the glamors worn off and she just wantsd to fade out, be “normal” again….
actually, I really have enjoyed this comic strip, and with the plot we do know right now seems like it could have a very interesting base for a movie.
    Props to you!

  37. MB Says:

The “don’t drop her Gary” gag is brilliant, it really made me laugh out loud, but i was wondering… how will you transcribe it in the movie?

I don’t know much about pop idols, but i think Hilary Duff would make a good Stasia. Or maybe one of the Olsen twins ? I really hope you’ll find a pop star to play Stastia’s role, that’d be great :D

  38. Duckity Says:

“Same for Hilary Duff or whoever it might be.”

    *shudders*
I personally hope Hilary Duff avoids anymore acting gigs.

But I don’t know. Pop stars change quickly, so there may be some new and uprising star by the time you get this into a movie studio. I think it’s great that you’re shootin’ for the stars with this. Even just the first seven pages have caught me and hooked me in completely.

  39. j Says:

sorry Last Blood not blood moon bm was the name of a b-list horror movie i a few weeks ago

  40. Alex Says:

Hope we haven’t completely missed Mondays updated :(

  41. Tássia Says:

Yay! Glad it worked :D hehehe

*now waiting for the next page ;)*

  42. Kristen Says:

I know this may be totally random, but I

  43. Kristen Says:

Oops, the tab button killed me.

Love this page. Very nice montage scene. And I heart Gary.

  44. Eisu Says:

Bobby’s sick, so the comic doesn’t have any new pages yet, I told him to get as much rest as he can and not force himself to write this too much… so hey, when he’s ready, we’ll get back on track

  45. Bobby Crosby Says:

Sorry, guys, still super sick. Wrote all the dialogue for Page 8 yesterday, but wasn’t able to write the descriptions for the art. Hopefully soon.

  46. Tamanegi Says:

Hm, get well soon, so this awesome comic can continue ;) Take it slowly.
    Thanks for letting us know in any case, so we don’t check back every day only to be disappointed… ^^;

  47. Valerie Says:

Wow, I love the look in the second to last panel^^ She looks great!

  48. Bobby Crosby Says:

    Here’s that panel’s description –
    ——
Panel 5: Shot of Stasia from behind, standing on the stage now, her back to us, but she’s turning her head to look at us out of the corner of her eye. I imagine her legs spread out a little and her arms down at her sides, maybe her hands balled up in fists? And if you want we can see another dancer or two near her doing the same pose. Her expression should be playful, sexy maybe. And I imagine the bottom of the panel being just below her butt (so that would also include her hands/fists probably).
    ——

Gonna try to finish up the script for Page 8 now.

  49. Valerie Says:

Wow, Eisu’s drawing seems to have fit that description perfectly. o_o You two make an awesome team!

  50. Bobby Crosby Says:

Eisu’s the best. Got him the script for Page 8 yesterday, right when he was about to go to work unfortunately, so we’re just gonna put that page up on Friday, and then hopefully we won’t miss a day for a long time. I should have been further ahead with the scripts to make up for a possible illness, but I’m too lazy!

  51. MARRY ME » Archive » Page 14: I Would? Says:

[…] get on her bad side. I wonder how she’ll react when she sees Guy. And by the way, if Parker knows who Gary is, she’ll of course be able to recognize Stasia’s sister. We’ll learn a little more […]

  52. Wolf Says:

    “Who?”

    rofl

  53. Shamus Says:

Liking what I’ve read so-far. I re: montage - I sort of guessed with the different coloured lyrics, but i think costume changes would have been more effective. Keep it coming
