Page 12: Silver Sharpie

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Sorry for missing Friday’s update! Eisu and I have been very busy lately and our goal for the moment (next month or so probably) is just to average over 2.5 pages per week, so continue to expect a missed day here and there. Thank you for your patience. I’m looking forward to seeing Guy and Stasia actually talking to each other on Page 13!

  1. Teffy Says:

I absolutely love this. But, does that mean that a priest carries around marriage licenses … just in case? X3

Anyways, absolutely love the art and I really love Stasia’s character. She just seems to be the type that is different in real life than on stage. Which is awesome :)

  2. Murray Says:

Thanks a lot for the updateeee!!!!!!!!

    Kisses from Argentina

  3. Bobby Crosby Says:

“But, does that mean that a priest carries around marriage licenses … just in case?”

It probably means that Stasia has no idea what just happened and probably didn’t sign a marriage license at all, but thinks she might have. She’s in a total daze.

  4. junko Says:

I love the expression on Stasia in panel five.

It’s like, “Oh yeah, I have one of those now, don’t I? Did I shove him in the janitor’s closet?”

  5. Ozmandious Says:

I like the story so far, especially how random Stacia is. Now, can I ask you six questions for an English paper? PLEASE??

  6. Tamanegi Says:

Stasia, you look breathtakingly good! :-)

The page turned out great! Perhaps Stasia’s a little too composed in the last panel, a little more nervosity in her smile would have fitted her in that situation.

    But just for non-americans…

Is a “sharpie” a mechanical pencil (Sharp pen) or something else?

What is a “marriage license”? Do you actually need a license to be able to marry? I know that you need one in Japan, which says that you are unmarried, of the proper age and stuff…

  7. Christine Says:

A Sharpie is a think permanant marker with a felt type tip.
They contain something you can get high off of, like drugs, but that’ really irrelevant for this comic.
A Silver sharpie would have a metallic sheen to it, and writes with a liquid similar to paint.

I love this page, I think her sister is an amazingly sister like character. She seems so much more mature than stasia.
I can’t wait to see her actually talk to her husband, that should be interesting. ^^

  8. Des Says:

A sharpie is like a marker but permanent as in hard to wash off. They come in a variety of colors and yes licenses are necessary to prove the wedding isn’t being forced and that you’re of age to marry or that your parents approve of you marrying if you’re underage.

  9. ThatOneChick Says:

Panels 5 and 7. Love. There is no more need for words. ♥

A sharpie is a glorified marker.

And in America, you need to sign a certificate that legally binds you to your spouse, which is what a Marriage License is. I think. Having never been married, I’m not completely sure.

  10. Duckity Says:

    I love sharpies.
    Silver sharpies are the win.
And, yes, Stasia, you look fine. xD
    Lovin’ it, neeeedmore.cantwait. ♥

  11. Zichelle Says:

XD “How do I look” Not exactly what my thought would be in that situation
Just makes Stasia that much more loveable

Good job guys love the art, love the story, can’t wait for more ^^

  12. Jen Says:

lol, “How do I look” would be my exact thought going into that situation. If I’m crazy nervous and dealing with an awkward situation, by god, I am going to look FINE. Part of that whole mental prep process :P

  13. Outshined Says:

@ Stasia: You look fab, but maybe that dress is a little -too- low cut. I’m not a big fan of shirts that show off what color undergarnments you’re wearing =)

  14. Bobby Crosby Says:

“Now, can I ask you six questions for an English paper? PLEASE??”

    Interesting. Sure, yeah.

  15. Namsab Says:

“Oh God, you’re right, I have a husband now.” XD

And I don’t think she has to ask how she looks. She’s showing half of her bra, it doesn’t matter how she looks somewhere else! ;D

  16. Van_Hine Says:

Sharpie is the brand name, however since they are so popular and good permanent markers, the name has become a household name for permanent markers, usually they have blunt felt tips, and they come in a large variety of colors.

That said I love this comic and all of your others Bobby, your brother’s too, also Eisu, he is an awesome artist.

  17. The Indigo Mystic Says:

Wow! This just gets better and better. Five panels, five distinct emotional states. Something about that suggests to me that Guy just might be in for a bit of a roller coaster ride. And that doesn’t even factor in Parker. This should prove interesting.

  18. The Indigo Mystic Says:

Seven! Seven panels seven expresions! I was thinking seven but somewhere inbetween mybrain and hands i lost two. Gadz! It’s three in the morning where i’m at. That must be it.

  19. Rollo Says:

“Perhaps Stasia’s a little too composed in the last panel, a little more nervosity in her smile would have fitted her in that situation.”

I don’t think so. It’s the face of the professional, preparing to enter another stage. As Stasia is very insecure and of low self-esteem, roleplaying would be her normal reaction to uncertain situations, I am sure. And as a super star, she would have the training to mask her emotions behind a perfect smile.

Besindes, I am sure there is a second layer beneath Stacias preparation to enter a stage. She already has stated there is some sympathy towards guy in her. My guess: Stacia has fallen in love instantly - yet, the trouble about the situation will prevent her from recognizing this. But unconsciously, she prepares now to face a man she feels something for, but is not sure about his feelings. Naturally, she will be concerned with giving the best impression she can towards guy.

All in all, a charming study in psychology.

    Me too ♥ comic!

  20. Bobby Crosby Says:

Good post, Rollo, but I just wanted to say that so far Stasia has only said that she thinks Guy’s cute, and that’s basically all she knows about him. She still wants to give the best impression possible, though, of course. She thought about this for a little while and decided that she wanted to just arrange her own marriage, deciding that it couldn’t be worse than any of the relationships she’s had so far in her life. She’s second guessing her decision now, as she will throughout the next many pages, but she has to try to see it through, or at least that’s what she’s thinking at this very moment (whenever that is), but her feelings will be changing back and forth for a while.

  21. Totz Says:

I wish my computer hadn’t been down during the last couple pages’ updates, but this has to be one of the most interesting reveals that I’ve seen.
I can’t wait for it to be revealed what actually happened, but I have to wonder… was Parker planning this somehow?

  22. Valerie Says:

    “How do I look?”

    XD

    Awesome job as always, guys.

  23. Valerie Says:

    “Was Parker planning this somehow?”

I kinda doubt that, Totz. Parker’s like, in love with Stasia. If not real love, at least crazy-stalker-love. XD I think it was just an unlucky coincidence for her.

  24. Bobby Crosby Says:

Yeah, impossible to plan it anyway.

  25. KittyKat Says:

So… has Parker managed to gank some clean pants off a passing groupie, or is she now Parker-PeePants? Just curious.

Love the facial expressions here!!!! :)

  26. Bobby Crosby Says:

Good question, KittyKat. Currently undecided on that one! But your comment got me thinking, and I think I just came up with a new scene to show what happens there. It’s one of those scenes that would probably be deleted from a film, but you’ll get to see it in the comic! Probably Page 15.

  27. Caramel Says:

*gigglesnorts at all of Stasia’s expressions* She’s so full of emotion! ^^

Geez, I’ve been here since NPP gave out the link and now I post. O_o

  28. Mewt Says:

I’m sorry, I kinda stopped reading comments and skipped ahead, becaue I have to comment.

How can you not know the beautiful glory that is the sharpie? I buy them three packs at a time at $30, so that I can have a bajillion beautiful colors. They’re not only fun to write with, fun to color with, and fun to simply stare at the beauty of, but they make -great- graffiti tools for those smart enough to realize carrying a paintcan is a little too conspicious for the artist on the go!

Go order from Sharpies from EBay or something. You will not be disappointed.

  29. Bunny Says:

A Sharpie is a permanent marker that celebs usually use to sign photographs and other odd surfaces that a normal ball-point pen would not be able to write on. That’s why she was writing with one. And, oh, yes, they can make you high if you sniff them.

  30. DracoPsycho Says:

Mewt: not everyone is from America or anywhere near it ;) I’m from Poland and haven’t heard of Sharpie yet. But I guess it’s something that we call… “Marker” xD Yup, english everywhere ;)

  31. KittyKat Says:

Wow. I affected change. :) YAY!!! *does a happy dance*

    You rock even harder now!

  32. Spec2re Says:

    Love the comic now.
    this addiction is all mine
    I must share the joy.

~thank you both for the adorable story and *love* eisu’s art!

anobody not reading ‘no pink ponies’ is missing out! (It’s why I found this)

    Thanks gang!

  33. Death Dragon2 Says:

Hilarious. I cannot wait for the next update. Great job so far! Keep it up! Also, I have a Silver Sharpie sitting next to my computer as I’m typing this. Talk about a co-inkidink!

  34. A Lilac Lie Says:

O.O there are places where people don’t know wat sharpies are?! New life goal: educate the whole world about sharpies…

  35. A Lilac Lie Says:

tht will b a great memory to look back on: “yes. we got married 5 years ago. I was wearing a beautiful bikini under a graduation gown. It was the happiest moment of my life!”

  36. Valerie Says:

    Nice, Lilac. XD *High-fives*

  37. Eisu Says:

Uggghhh, I have to apologise again… Bobby already got the script for today’s update done but I couldn’t get to it in time to do the page and thus, I have to delay today’s page to Friday… really sorry about that… I’m gonna step up and make sure I make next week’s updates…

  38. Bobby Crosby Says:

Just want to say that it’s just as much my fault as Eisu’s. He told me on Monday that he could work on the page that night and I told him I’d probably get him the script in time, but then I wasn’t able to, not getting it to him until Tuesday. We’ll try hard to do three pages next week.

  39. Andy Says:

I’m really angry at you for not getting it out at time, but only because I love the writing and art. Don’t rush to appease fans like me, but please don’t delay too long!

    ^_^ looking forward to Friday.

  40. Bobby Crosby Says:

I think Friday’s page will be worth the wait — has a couple good lines. I almost broke it up into two pages, but decided to just stuff it all into one. Eisu gave it high marks in a recent e-mail: “This page is hilarious.”

  41. Valerie Says:

Bobby and Eisu: That’s okay. Writing and drawing can be really hard sometimes, so I’m sure everyone reading understands^^ …At least those of us who have ever tried to write or draw, anyway. XD

  42. DracoPsycho Says:

@Lilac: we just don’t know this expression and not concept behind it so look for someone to educate somewhere else… probably poor and hungry children in Africa :P

  43. DracoPsycho Says:

Actually, Sharpie is just a brand name. It’s also like how we often call copying ‘xeroxing’, tissues ‘Kleenex’, and similar.

  44. Andy (sorry, meant to write DracoPsycho: to reply) Says:

Actually, Sharpie is just a brand name. It’s also like how we often call copying ‘xeroxing’, tissues ‘Kleenex’, and similar.

  45. Andy Says:

BTW, is there some way to edit or delete our comments/comment name? I accidentally wrote DracoPsycho in the name field, thinking for no obvious reason that it was some sort of To: field. Apparently you can submit again once and it’ll change it, but not the second or third time around.

    Sorry about that.

  46. Andy Says:

ACK! the comment system is confusing. Sometimes it edits my post, sometimes it deletes or ignores it when I re-submit a comment.

Basically the gist of it is (and I hope this one goes through) that Sharpie is a term used for permanent markers in the same way Xeroxing and Kleenex are used for copying and tissue, respectively. They’re all brand names.

  47. Tamanegi Says:

We call sharpies “Edding” in Germany :) And tissues are “Tempo”, also brand names. Seems only logical that they are called differently somewhere else…

  48. Suvi Says:

I started reading the comic a couple of days ago, and I love it! Also, it’s funny how today I noticed that ‘Coming to America’ is going to be on tv tomorrow here in Finland :D Coincidences are fun :)

  49. Mhuirnin Says:

“So… has Parker managed to gank some clean pants off a passing groupie, or is she now Parker-PeePants? Just curious.”

I have to ask…is that a “The Wedding Date” reference? Tommy Pee-Pants?

  50. KittyKat Says:

Um… Maybe subconciously… I haven’t seen that movie since it was in theaters… But I had a friend in elementary school whose name was Peter, and, well… you can guess how that goes.

  51. Totz Says:

So, are they really married now or not?

  52. Bobby Crosby Says:

As far as they know, they’re married. We’ll see. I’ll say now, though, that the legality of it will not be a major issue (or at least not any time soon), for a few very good reasons.

  53. Quarion Says:

    two things,

First: I don’t think she nesicarily looks too composed in the last pannel, I think she is posing, so to speak. She may be extreemly nervous but I have never known a girl who didn’t do some sort of pose, even if it’s just a nice face, when they say “How do I look?”

Second: Is that really how you spell Kleenex?

  54. DracoPsycho Says:

No problem Andy, I just kinda tried to remember when did I post that :D

Now, about Sharpie, we call ‘electrolux’ at vacuum cleaners and yeah, xeroxing is so common that we have word “ksero” and we hardly call it like copying.

I don’t think Guy will complain about Stasia wearing THAT outfit ;)

  55. Lucy Says:

  56. hector huyke Says:

i love sniffing sharpies but r they really addictive?

  57. Myriam D. Says:

Whoever that Priest guy was, he’s insane. XD

  58. chumash99 Says:

Stasia in panel five…total “EEP!” moment, fol, lowe by “How do I look?” Well, I’d button up that shirt just a few more places (a little cleavage, sure, but not too much; this *is* a first date, after all!), but otherwise you look great. Go get ‘em, tiger!

“i love sniffing sharpies but r they really addictive?”

Yes, and it can be very hazardous to your health. Consult your doctor…like *now*.
