  1. Annonymous Says:

Ha, I love Stasia’s face on the second to last panel when Parker says “Oh, you said my name.” Haha, priceless. Her face in the third panel is funny too.

Love the comic, love the art, love the story. Keep it up! ^_^

  2. totz Says:

Everything about this page is amazing! My favorite part is the second panel, though. Obviously, Janny knows Parker’s type well.

Also, I’m so geeked to be the first comment!

  3. Russ Says:

I just lost respect for Guy with his “are we gonna have sex tonight?” question. Really bad way to start out, there.

But I am eagerly looking to see the fit hit the Shan over the “your sign” revelation… :)

  4. sean Says:

“When there are as many strangers around as possible. Her husband’s already there, so you’ll make two…”

    Loved that line.

  5. sean Says:

    > I just lost respect for Guy with his “are we gonna have sex tonight?”
    > question. Really bad way to start out, there.

Actually, me too ;(. Not the best way to begin a conversation, or a marriage, I’d assume.

  6. rylie Says:

In a word: awesome. Parker’s character is wonderful - I love seeing eccentric personalities spark out in comics! Guy is a typical…erm, guy. So I hold nothing against ‘im.
These characters are priceless! Well-scriped, well-drawn…this is a great comic.

  7. vZ Says:

I just post it here mainly for purpose of checking your timezone - here is 4:47 am :D - but I waited. Stasia’s face in sixth panel makes it worth it :D

  8. totz Says:

If you look closely at guy’s expression he’s looking in the other dierection. I don’t know for sure, but that, and the other obvious signs of nervousness, it seems that he’s asking it only because he thinks that he may have to, and doesn’t want to be forced into it.

  9. Lydia Says:

I think Guy is a little disappointed over the interruption.

All I can say after seeing that last panel is: “OH SNAP…” Seriously, Stasia looks a teensy upset.

  10. Quetzala. Says:

LOL. This is the best page it, it’s super funny.
    I love this comic.

  11. FreeSample Says:

2nd panel is the most funny scene in the comic so far! But it just seems strange Parker yelling that Guy’s name (pun intended) without looking at him :S

  12. FreeSample Says:

Oh, and Parker didn’t let go of Stasia’s hand! that was funny too! XD

  13. Eisu Says:

Parker’s yelling Guy’s name to help out Stasia, that’s why she’s more looking towards Stasia than to Guy… see, Stasia said, “Janny, I’d like you to meet, um–” indicating that the name escapes her for a moment so Parker said (she didn’t really yell though, that was my mistake on the facial expression) “Guy!” to be helpful to Stasia…

  14. Mhuirnin Says:

Stasia face in the 3rd panel is priceless. She’s prolly never been so happy to see her sister in her life! Saved from awkward questions byt your sister and a crazed fan…phew!

  15. Mamibunny Says:

I love this page!!! my fave panel is #3… lmao… that is such a thing that a guy would ask… lol… then Janny and Parker show up just in time… lol…
    Great work guys…

  16. Tibbar de Gniw Says:

I think Guy is only asking to get it over with though… He’s tugging his shirt again.

  17. Violinagin Says:

Considering what she’s wearing, and the fact that they just got married, seems like a pretty reasonable question on his part ;P Janny’s awesome. Wonder if she’s going to have to help pry Parker’s hand off?

  18. Bobby Crosby Says:

“Not the best way to begin a conversation, or a marriage, I’d assume.”

First, this is well into their conversation, not the beginning of it, and they’ve already had lots of awkward parts to this conversation, like Stasia asking if he was gay for one thing, remember? I think Guy is being honest when he says that he’s “really just wondering.” It’s something that popped into his head and he decided to ask. You say it’s not the best way to begin a marriage, but don’t almost all marriages begin with sex on the wedding night??? It’s a reasonable thing to wonder!

  19. ThatOneChick Says:

    “Right. And you are?”
Tee~! I’m a teensy bit disappointed that Stasia didn’t go, ‘Oh, right, Parker!’ Parker probably leading her rabid fangirl base… XD
Then again, it seems Janny would be more in-touch with the fans.

When she says, “Oh, you said my name.”, Parker looks a little drugged out. -pokes cautiously- Is that… normal… for someone who’s just met an idol of theirs? O.o

  20. ThatOneChick Says:

… To clarify that last statement, before someone goes ballistic on me…
I’m a teensy bit disappointed that Stasia didn’t go, ‘Oh, right, Parker!’ after Parker introduced herself. ^.^;; I’m gonna stop now, ’cause I sound stupid. Ignore the Peanut Gallery over here.

  21. Outshined Says:

Most marriages begin with two people that have known each other for years, though, and have probably been “intimate” before the wedding even occurs. In that situation, a little consummation’ is not such a bizzare thing to do. But in this case, it’s the equivalent of asking the person you’ve just met if you are “gonna do it”.

Yeah, I think that was pretty tactless of Guy, but he does seem a little out of his element, here =P.

  22. Bobby Crosby Says:

Tactless, sure, but I don’t think we should lose respect for him just yet.

  23. Eisu Says:

I always imagine Guy to be the type who’s not very tact too… not totally tactless, but to say that he is considerate in everything is pushing it to much like he’s the most perfect guy ever or something… I think this part, this whole, “Are we gonna have sex?” thing makes him more human and believable…

  24. Yumeh Says:

Honestly, with that one sentence Guy lost all sympathy I had for him x.x…. I know this was heavily thought about while making the comic, but still… Totally not matching what I thought till now was his personality. And I don’t like what I’m starting to see x.x….
Don’t understand me wrong, I adore the comic, and this is a good page xDDDD…. I just don’t adore Guy anymore. Too much of an ‘eeeew’ moment x.x

  25. Bobby Crosby Says:

Oh well. Just to explain Guy’s thinking a little more: He just now realizes “THIS IS MY WEDDING NIGHT,” so that question pops into his head, and then he presented it in as nice a way as possible, even saying “This is gonna sound bad,” acknowledging it. He was half-joking about it, but also curious. It was said in a CONFUSED way, really “just wondering,” as he says, as opposed to a “Please tell me we’re going to have sex” way.

  26. Chapin Says:

Wow… I can’t believe everyone is thinking Guy is some horrible person.

    Let’s review.
    1. Stasia is a superstar singer who dresses provacatively. Think of IRL examples of those.
    2. Stasies just married Guy.

How is this NOT a legit question? Besides, it looks like he’s just as afraid that she’ll say yes as no.

  27. Shlippy Says:

And the s**t hits the fan.

Or should I say the fan just hit the s**t…..

No, that doesn’t make any sense at all…..There’s a good pun in there somewhere.

  28. Outshined Says:

“Just to explain Guy’s thinking a little more: He just now realizes “THIS IS MY WEDDING NIGHT,” so that question pops into his head”

I think you’ve just come across a better way to present the idea. Guy could comment: “Hey, I just realized this is my wedding night”, and it would allude to the idea you wanted to present, but at the same time present it in a way that’s a lot more innocent and revelatory than “are we gonna get it on?” This also shows the confusion he feels, which is overall what you were going for, I think.

    What do you think?

  29. Bobby Crosby Says:

I think the readers are supposed to realize that subtext based on the situation that we already know they’re in. Some won’t, and that’s fine. Not everyone is going to fully get everything in a comic. In a movie it would be a lot easier to see what he meant by the way the actor said the line, although I think Eisu’s drawing of Guy said a lot, but one still picture and some text can’t always do the trick. And adding more dialogue so he just makes it extremely clear what he was thinking through the text would be clunky and would sound fake/scripted probably. It also really lessens the impact of the line. It makes it too boring. The line is supposed to be a little shocking and definitely supposed to be funny, but if he explains it too much beforehand it just makes it boring.

  30. Rollo Says:

The fact so many people are upset by Guy’s question shows me it was rightly picked. An unconfident person in an uncertain situation - people have been known to talk their heads into the sling in such moments. So does Guy. Heck, which man would not think about having it with such hot woman he just was married to?
Well, about Parkers face, when naming Guy: I think, it`s okay, Eisu. I tried pronouncing “Guy” in front of a mirror, the mouth is opening quite widely. Plus, a manic person in an extremely emotional situation, which leads to overreacting.
All in all I would say, keep trusting your instincts, chaps. The more controversial the behavior of your figures, the more realistic they seem. It’s not from nothing why so many people discuss them like real persons here. No-one considers pure cliché figures realistic.

  31. Tamanegi Says:

Perhaps Guy is just not sure what to do now and tried to make this marriage more “normal” by following the “usual route” of newlyweds—? Of course, that doesn’t work in this case, but Stasia was only out of words, stuttering around… I guess she was glad she didn’t have to decide on that right there.

  32. Namsab Says:

Wow, so much fuss over just one little sentence in the whole story..! XD
Of course I was a little bit..um.. surprised at first too, but it’s not like I lose respect or anything for Guy now. At first, somehow, it IS a pretty logical question to ask, even if it was maybe the wrong moment to xP. And second, look at his face and the shirt-tugging.. it seems more like in this moment, he realizes he doesn’t really want an answer because it would be too awkward, no matter if it’s yes or no. XD

What I like much more are the expressions of everyone in panel 4.
Parker: OMG it’s Stasia this is really happening I’m shaking her hand omgomgomg.
Stasia: Umm..WHO the hell is that?
Janny. Oh god, that’s my little sister’s husband… try to be friendly.
The only thing I can’t describe is Guys look. Did he just ‘turn off’ the awkwardness of the situation, or why is he smiling businessman-like?

I so want to know what happens on the next page, with the sign..!

  33. Lyrit Says:

Personally, I agree with Bill and Eisu. Totally legit question for a guy to ask. Hell, I’m a girl and if I was thrown in that situation I’d ask the very same question. It’s not necessarily sleaze “oooo I wanna have sex hur hur…” it’s more of curiousity - not to mention a good way of telling whether or not they’re going to be getting an annulment right after the show.

  34. Conscious Says:

Wuahaha, let the fun begin :D

I agree too much fuss about an awkward question =P, then again wtf ^^
The _real_ fun will be on the next page *evil grin*, when things come tumbling down :)

  35. Conscious Says:

God, i love this comic :D

  36. Robert Says:

Guy’s comment felt a little out of ‘voice’ for the him, it seemed to me like what should have come out of his mouth should have been along the lines ‘are you expecting us to … um…. you know….’. The way it came out sounded more like something Stasia would say. One of the great banes of webcomics, over-analysis - I can’t imagine anything Richard Curtis has ever written surviving this level of scene by scene analysis.

  37. NomadSoul Says:

Am I the only one who thinks that Parker’s thought process somehow involves proving that the sign is hers, thereby nullifying Guy’s marriage to Stasia and taking his place?

Rabid fans are scary that way.

  38. Cheryl Says:

Makes sense for him to ask it though, maybe not that wording per say. We studied a bit about marriage in high school law, mostly how it could be annuled and one of the things that came up was whether the two parties consumated the marriage. If they didn’t, then by legal standards the marriage is void. I don’t know how this applies to American law though, so I could be wrong.

  39. ThatOneChick Says:

All I have to say about this whole mess is that Bobby’s obviously trying to make Guy seem more realistic. A realistic Guy [no pun intended] wouldn’t always say what his ’stereotype’ dictated, right? He’s probably trying to be as diplomatic about it as possible, but he’s still freaked out from the whole incident, and it probably seems a little surreal.

  40. Quarion Says:

Namsab: “Did he just ‘turn off’ the awkwardness of the situation, or why is he smiling businessman-like?”

Maybe this is how he reacts to meeting new people. Some people really do have the ability to instantly change their expression and burry their emotions and feelings when presented with a new situation. Can’t think of anyone in particular of the top of my head but I have seen people do just that.

Also, this is a standard introduction sequence which he is probably much more used to than the situation he was in a few seconds ago. This means that his expression, the polite smile and the ‘hello nice to meet you’, is that much easier an emotional mask to put on.

Personally, I think that Stasia’s expression in the last pannel says that soon Guy will get a beat-down from not one but two women.

  41. Caramel Says:

    Nah, I still respect Guy.

I lvoe the last panel! XD Stasia is probably overwhelmed with emotions right now…

  42. TalulaRoo Says:

“Only if you promise to let go.” XP

Well, as of this page she still hasn’t let go!! XD

  43. keii Says:

hahaha. that’s how i’d start a conversation with some stranger i just married. 1. legitimate question 2. awkward/ice breaker.
    amazing as always.

  44. KittyKat Says:

Hehehe. So much debate over poor Guy.

I totally see it as like a verbal hemmorhage. He just opens his mouth and blurts it before his brain can catch up.

I have that kind of thing happen to me all the time. :P

    “Your sign?!” Priceless.

  45. totz Says:

I don’t remember the scene perfectly, but it seems to me that Parker’s “Oh, you said my name.” is the same thing Honey said when meeting Anna Scott in Notting Hill. I’m guessing that this was intentional.

Parker is still my absolute favorite.

  46. Bobby Crosby Says:

totz: I tried to look up that line online, but couldn’t find it. I wanted to see how similar it was. I knew she said something LIKE that, but I wasn’t sure if it was about her name or something else. But even if it is almost identical it could just be another little homage to “Notting Hill,” since the stories are similar in a number of ways, including with Stasia’s name (Ana)! If someone could watch that movie and get the exact line, that would be appreciated.

  47. Elliot Kane Says:

The “Are we gonna have sex?” line actually does come across as really crass. The drawing makes it clear he’s really uncomfortable, but the words are pretty much contradicting the art. I think he needs to sound a lot more hesitant, like: “We’re not gonna… ya know… have sex, are we?” Makes it sound more like he’s dreading the answer, which from the art would appear to be the case.

Guy seems to me to be a very shy person thrown into somethig completely and wildly out of his depth, and he’s been portrayed very well as that, so far. To me, that specific line just doesn’t quite ring true.

Great comic so far, though :)

  48. Bobby Crosby Says:

He’s not dreading it, though. He’s honestly JUST WONDERING, as the line says. He looks uncomfortable because it’s an awkward thing to say. And the response that he’s expecting from her is something like, “I don’t know, probably not.” It’s not like he’s waiting for a yes or no. He has a say in this too, of course. He’s just wondering what her feelings on that are, and/or he’s simply thinking outloud and not even expecting any response from her at all. He could also be expecting a laugh from it. He kind of says it in a joking manner.

  49. Bobby Crosby Says:

Here, I made a VIDEO of the line! Not sure if it will help or hurt your opinion of Guy, but this at least shows how I imagined him saying the line –

    CLICK TO HEAR IT.

  50. pero Says:

As far as I’m concerned, Guy ain’t done nothing wrong.
I don’t know if I would ask, given the same situation, though I sure would be wondering.

  51. Elliot Kane Says:

Sorry Bobby, but hearing the line spoken actually made me wince. I tried to imagine myself saying it to a girl I’d only just met and knew next to nothing about and… I just couldn’t. The circumstances actually make it worse, not better. Guy isn’t really a fan, doesn’t even fancy her that much according to Parker (Who should know) and now he’s coming out with this.

It’s not like any guy wouldn’t be thinking about it: Stasia is obviously gorgeous. But putting it in quite that way just doesn’t work, for me. It still sounds crass. Sorry.

  52. Bobby Crosby Says:

“I tried to imagine myself saying it to a girl I’d only just met . . .”

You do realize that they’re married, right? He’s not thinking about it simply because he’s a guy and because she’s hot. He’s thinking about it because it’s THEIR WEDDING NIGHT. He’s realizing the absurdity of the situation and he thought of that funny/crazy thing and voiced it. Anyway, some people just won’t get it and that’s fine.

  53. Mhuirnin Says:

I didn’t see a problem with Guy’s question. Hell, it’s prolly something I’d ask if I just married some guy I didn’t know. You say awkward things when you’re in an awkward situation. Perfectly natural. Honestly, I just don’t get the fuss.

  54. Mhuirnin Says:

PS: Stasia doesn’t look offended so why are the readers? Because you know what? Chances are the minute he asked that she thought something along the lines of “OMG. He’s right. We’re married. Wedding Night. OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD” which why she’s so damn happy to see her sis because now she doesn’t have to panic about said honeymoon event.

  55. Elliot Kane Says:

Bobby - yes, I realise they’re married. I think this might well be a case of American humour vrs British humour though, as we’re not at all on the same wavelength here.

I do appreciate your attempts to clear it up, though. Thank you :)

  56. Bobby Crosby Says:

No problem. Thanks for your comments. And now I’m gonna watch the new “Doctor Who” episode!

  57. Dr. Jello Says:

I actually feel really bad for Guy. I mean, he totally just found himself married to a massively famous popstar, and he’s gotta be wondering what her expectations are. I don’t lose any respect for him - if anything, I admire his initiative in bringing up that delicate matter. Neither were expecting…well, sex that night. For most people, sex with a perfect stranger would be kind of awkward, especially if there’s not even a common social status. It’s like a preisdent of some country getting a hooker from the slums, or something. Not to diss Guy, though. :D

Crappit. I sound like some professor or something. *pays Parker to kick me, too* Anyhoo, yeah. I don’t think Guy did anything wrong. Poor guy. *bottom lip quivers* Please don’t humiliate him too much in future, Bobby. And have fun with Doctor Who. I…totally have no idea who that is. Call me socially illiterate, why doncha.

  58. Bobby Crosby Says:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Who

Partly mentioned it because Elliot just talked about British humor. Great show, you should check it out.

  59. Elliot Kane Says:

    Dr Who totally rules :)

The BBC has a massive site dedicated to the show, which is here:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/index.shtml

And a list of the older seasons before the recent relaunch can be found here:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/classic/episodeguide/

The last really helps when you are searching YouTube ;) :D

Bobby - sorry to hijack your thread, but I thought you might find those interesting, too :)

  60. Bobby Crosby Says:

No problem, that’s great, thanks. Reading all through the Wiki now. Just listened to the original theme music. I actually haven’t seen any episodes prior to 2005. I’ve only seen the last few seasons.

  61. Adam Says:

Aha! Oh Guy, you crazy, crazy guy.
I don’t see why people lose respect for him.
Here’s a girl who dresses in skimpy and revealing clothes, who does irrational things on a whim, and basically pressured him into marrying her via publicity.
There’s a hugely awkward conversation between the two and it’s just another awkward question. He definitely seems nervous and scared of any answer she could produce at the time, and I’m sure it’s as much of a relief for him as it was for Stasia that Janny came in the nick of time.

And I LOVE the Stasia-Parker interaction. It’s priceless, everything about it really matches with how I expected it. Parker’s fangirl-ish excitement, Stasia’s cautious greeting and utter awkwardness….

Awesome stuff. Can’t wait for Wednesday!

  62. Shlippy Says:

I don’t think any man could marry a woman, even if it was spur of the moment, and NOT think that AT LEAST once.

The subject WAS going to come up eventually.

  63. Rollo Says:

*sigh* in Germany Dr Who is not broadcasted…

  64. Bobby Crosby Says:

    Download it!

  65. El Says:

Nor in Finland…well, not until months later, but…dum dum DUM! We live in the age of technology and have EMULE! I usually get my weekly serving of Doctor Who on Sunday mornings. :D

  66. Bobby Crosby Says:

    Human Dalek is scary!

  67. Outshined Says:

“PS: Stasia doesn’t look offended so why are the readers?”

Actually, she looks to me like she’s thinking: “Thank God someone walked in before I had to answer that awkward question!”

I sympathize with the intent of the author, but I really feel, in a written format, that the intent is lost and it sounds out of character.

  68. pero Says:

“The more one seeks to understand matters of the heart, the more those matters will lose meaning”

Don’t look into what was said so seriously, peeps. Ultimately, you’ll only cheapen the experience for yourselves.

Guy, and what he said, is believeable to me BECAUSE I know people in RL that are.. awkward enough to ask the question, just as Guy did.

  69. Eisu Says:

I sympathize with the intent of the author, but I really feel, in a written format, that the intent is lost and it sounds out of character.

How is it out of character? We only started to really see Guy right now so we can’t really know how the character really is… I mean, for all we know, he might actually be tactless in nervous moments

  70. Megan Says:

Ok, my first post! Go me!

I agree with “..it seems that he’s asking it only because he thinks that he may have to, and doesn’t want to be forced into it.’

I can actually see the conversation happening, remember, these two strangers have something in common, the fact that they married someone they didn’t know. To me it follows with the awkwardness of their conversation, and they both seem comfortable discussing it, even if Guy looks a little unsure.

    Just my two cents.

  71. Terra Says:

Hmm… Will have to keep an eye on this one…

  72. Kris Says:

Oh, Guy’s line about getting some just cracks me up. He’s so wonderfully awkward. I love it.

  73. Russ Says:

No question but that we are learning Guy’s character, and I can see the “really awkward” idea as a possibility, but it still troubles me. The question he asked is unnecessary and uncomfortable. If this is all going to be treated as a mistake and undone quickly, then the question is incredibly rude. But if the two are going to treat the marriage as real, then he needs to be doing everything to make his new wife as comfortable as possible with it - for his own sanity if nothing else. There are plenty of good questions to be asking, and the answers to those will supply the one to this one, without making him look immature to the person whose opinion of him is most going to matter in the days (and possibly years) ahead. Maybe the author’s intent is that he should come off as a nervous jerk. I can see that as a story choice, and in that case, it is reasonable for me to think less well of him now. If not - well, I think he’s just dug an unnecessary hole for himself.

  74. Dr. Jello Says:

‘kay, whatever. Thanks for all the Doctor Who linkies. *breathes sigh of relief at lack of flaming* I’m REALLY looking forward to the next update! *wiggles in anticipation* *falls off chair*

Ahem. Yes. It’s just a QUESTION, for crying out loud. It’s not like it’s an expectation or anything. He’s CURIOUS. Heck, I’D be wondering that if I suddenly found myself married to a famous popstar.

  75. sarah Says:

Haven’t we already seen the sign on the front page in the relfection of the glasses?

  76. c0rk Says:

The effect of Guy’s line depends on the delivery. In movies, people can easily determine the feelings of the speaker, because speech is nuanced. For the comic, I think the intended awkwardness could be enhanced with the use of hesitant punctuation and disfluencies: “Uh, this is gonna sound bad, but… um, are we gonna… have… ah, sex? Tonight?”

  77. totz Says:

Jeez, let’s all just stop speculating for the moment, we’ll all see who Guy really is soon enough.

  78. Eisu Says:

No question but that we are learning Guy’s character, and I can see the “really awkward” idea as a possibility, but it still troubles me. The question he asked is unnecessary and uncomfortable.

Just wanna mention that at times, when you are at a “really awkward” situation, stuff just spews out of your mouth uncontrollably, unnecessary and uncomfortable as well… see, it troubles you, yes, cos Guy seems to be rude to ask that, but the thing is, it’s a very strange situation… I’ve been in a whole bunch of strange situations and let me tell you, the stuff that pops out of your mouth in this situation is unbelievable… it’s the stuff that you say and then moments later think to yourself, “Why the hell did I say that?!?” and beat yourself about it… me, personally, that’s what I think Guy did, so that’s why for me, this is absolutely NORMAL… like everyone said, who WOULDN’T be curious about that after they just married a famous pop star who is #2 on FHM’s hot star list… #2!!! Out of a 100!!! Do you know the implications of marrying someone like that? The thing that flies through your head would be unbelievable, I’d gather…

Seriously, like most are saying, it’s just a question… it seems rude to you but only cos you’re an observer… if put in the same situation, who knows what you’ll do, I don’t and you probably don’t either… when your heart races so fast and you’re nervous and awkward, everything’s unpredictable…

Okay, sorry about that, I’m mentioning more than I though I would…

  79. Bobby Crosby Says:

Ha, Eisu’s the best. Thanks, buddy. He covered it all even better than I could. And I want to echo what Dr. Jello said: “It’s just a QUESTION, for crying out loud. It’s not like it’s an expectation or anything. He’s CURIOUS.” I totally fail to see where Russ and Outshined are coming from on this one. How could it make him look so bad when he’s JUST WONDERING about something? Anyway, we’ve gone over this enough and a new page will be up very soon!

“Haven’t we already seen the sign on the front page in the relfection of the glasses?”

Yes, but that isn’t actually what the sign what looks like. On Page 9 we saw that the sign is pink. Covers sometimes differ from what actually happens in the comic. For example, look at Stasia’s outfit on the cover. She wasn’t wearing that when the wedding took place.

And to c0rk: I use a lot of ums and uhs, especially in Marry Me, but I decided that it didn’t fit right for that line. I saw him saying this line in two possible ways: One, he actually might have planned it out in his head a little beforehand and debated about whether he should say it and scripted it himself, trying to get it right, even adding the part about how he knew it would sound bad, and he almost didn’t say it, but then decided to just go for it and spit it out. Or two, it popped into his head and he just said it instantly before he could think about it and take it back. And in either of those cases he’d say the line fast probably without the ums. I think if he said it slowly he’d probably stop himself before actually finishing the line.

I don’t see anything wrong with Guy’s question. Consider the situation from his point-of-view:

    1) Thanks to numerous entertainment “news” shows, “reality” shows, behind the scenes specials, the media has crafted an image of famous artist taking part in drug-driven orgies as SOP. Entertainment programming is prevelent in our society, it is difficult to avoid even if one doesn’t care. We don’t know Stasia’s reputation in the Media nor what Guy’s pre-conceived notions about stars of Stasia’s fame entail.

    2) I have a strange feeling that Guy doesn’t know what was on the sign that Parker handed him. If so, then from his point-of-view, Stasia picked him out of an audience of thousands seemingly at random.

    3) Stasia has mentioned several times that they are now married and is spending time alone with him. If it was done as a publicity stunt, Guy would have been handed over to a lawyer, made to sign some papers and given a wad of cash. Also, I don’t know if Guy has thought about the legal standing of the marriage. Stasia hasn’t mentioned it and she is the one with all of the lawyers. As far as Guy can tell, even though Stasia married him on a lark, she is completely serious about being married.

    4) There are no cultural guidelines for Guy to fall back on. In the US, there are actually very few guidelines to guide relationships from first meeting to marriage. Having sex on your wedding night is the closest guideline that he has, but it assumes that the couple actually loves one another (and knows each other’s names) before getting married.

    5) Its late. It was already dark out before the concert started and it seemed to take 2 1/2 hours from start to finish. It is too late to have a spur-of-the moment wedding reception. There isn’t much of a buffer between now and bedtime.

Guy is in a very confusing situation. He has been dragged on stage and married to a sexy superstar who could have (and has had) her pick of men. He doesn’t know why he has been singled out or what Stasia wants from him. Asking about sex would give him a very clear answer as too how serious Stasia is about their new relationship and what she expects of him.

If they were on their first date or had just meet in a nightclub, the question would have been crass. But they are married and talking about where to go from there is the mature thing to do.

Just want to say that Guy definitely did know what was on the sign. On Page 9 Parker held the sign directly in front of his face.

    Good points overall, though, thanks!

Mmm. The much debated statement threw me too, but more because I didn’t expect it. I think it probably gives good insight into Guy’s character that we weren’t aware of up to this point, and that is held up by what I have read of the rest of the comic so far… i.e. that he is honest and straight forward.
…I’m female (in case you couldn’t guess by the name) and yeah, that comment would have made me react… well, much as Stasia just did. But I bet she was wondering/dancing around the thought of what he was expecting, as he was about what she was expecting, so really, he just voiced something that needed to be voiced. …maybe he could have picked a more tactful way, but hey, who can think about all these things on the fly?

Anywho, I’m finding this pretty fun so far. Can’t wait to see where it will go.

just a random thought, but perhaps “Are we supposed to have sex tonight?” might be a way to soften the statement a hair without making it round about.
