  1. absolutirony Says:

I have to say, I kind of enjoy seeing the page first in black and white and then in color. It’s interesting to see the differences in the two.

  2. janetbob Says:

    Mwaha! First comment, methinks.

The interview made me think of Nancy Grace for some reason, just because it was a woman interviewing and bashing ensued. But Nancy Grace usually does all the bashing, even cutting off and interrupting the interviewee without tact which would be considered badgering the witness (and they constantly refer to her as a former prosecutor).

I hate how everything can get misconstrued and criticized.

    Such awesomeness in this work.

  3. wedgejaeger Says:

ha, I wonder if he’d have “more” respect if he knew it were real

  4. Jonathan Says:

This is the media we’re talking about. No matter what the circumstances, they would have found some hype simply because Stasia is famous. She and Guy simply made it easy for them this time.

  5. rainebryd Says:

I love this comic! And before anyone points it out, The guy in the first panel looks like one of the character designs Eisu scrapped!
I love little detail like that! :D

  6. Brittany Says:

I’m to obsessed with this comic for my own good. Good job :]

  7. Bobby Crosby Says:

rainebyrd, this was a conversation I had with Eisu on Gmail chat about an hour ago . . .

Eisu: the fan on the first page?
the first design of Guy ^o^
and he’s holding the cover version of the Marry Me sign ^o^

me: LOL, I almost even told you to do that!
I was considering saying that in the script!
To say “Just have him look like the first Guy design,” ha.

    Eisu: ha ha ha, awesome

    me: Ha, yeah, that’s great.

    Eisu: total sub-concious link

  8. Eisu Says:

“and he’s holding the cover version of the Marry Me sign ^o^”

Sans the Hearts though, cos the guy did say he didn’t put any in

  9. tj Says:

Stasia saying that the marriage is real in the last panel is great! true yet contradicting.

she and Guy did go through the marriage ceremony, but both of them (at this point) really don’t want to be married to each other. heh…

  10. Zeusandhera Says:

Bobby, Maybe both you and Eisu thought that way because the dialog of that fan is “The Other Guy”, which technically speaking, he is the “Other Guy”.

Maybe that’s what his name could be?

  11. Bobby Crosby Says:

Well he doesn’t need a name, since that’s the only time we’ll ever see him, but yeah, that might be part of why we thought that way. I also described him as clean cut and well groomed in the script, so that made Eisu think of the original Guy.

  12. rainebryd Says:

LoL! That’s awsome! I love it when creators put in easter eggs. It made my day to see that! I love the comic by the way, can’t wait when, or if, we can buy it in print!

  13. Bobby Crosby Says:

You can buy the first 24 pages in print very soon! We’ll go to print with it next week probably and we’ll start taking pre-orders then as well, to be shipped 3-4 weeks from now when the printing is done.

  14. Formerly Glenn Says:

I see one solution to this that may both convince people that Stasia isn’t crazy and make them not lose respect for her. Pretend that Guy was in fact, like, an online boyfriend or something for a long time… then say that they just wanted to introduce him to the world in their wedding or something.

Eh, implausible I guess… and of course not what they’re going to do, but it could work.

  15. Zeusandhera Says:

I was thinking in the grander scheme of things; You want this to be a movie right? I was thinking “Other Guy” is what the character could be credited as. Sorry, I was thinking out loud I guess. hee hee.

    Either way, good job guys!

  16. Elliot Kane Says:

I love the look on Stasia’s face in the last panel. The look of hurt surprise is great :)

  17. Bobby Crosby Says:

Ah, I see. Good thinking. Probably not descriptive enough for the credits, though. “Other Guy with Sign” maybe.

“The look of hurt surprise is great.”

Eisu’s the best. Here’s how it was in the script . . .

Panel 6: Cut to a shot of STASIA, possibly with others in the background, but maybe just a close up of Stasia, up to you. She looks genuinely sad/hurt. Not angry, just hurt/confused/sad. Pretty subtle, but clearly a sad/pained face, like she was accused of something horrible that she didn’t do and no one believes her and she realizes that no one will ever believe her, so there’s no need to yell about it. She is not yet on the verge of tears or anything like that, but starting to move towards that. If we see anyone else, they should just be looking at Stasia and looking interested/concerned.

    STASIA: BUT IT WAS REAL.

  18. Zahooee Says:

Funny thing is, the way they describe it, it really does look like a publicity stunt. (Why exactly *was* the old priest in the audience anyway?)

I love Bernie’s white mustache and black beard. It really helps him look as ridiculous as most of those celebrity watchers come across. (At least to me anyway…)

I absolutely *love* the look on Stasia’s face in the last panel and her incredulous “But it was real.” is just the icing on the cake.

Wasn’t she just looking for a way out of this mess?

  19. Bobby Crosby Says:

“Why exactly *was* the old priest in the audience anyway?”

Just happened to be there. Any number of reasons. Stasia has a wide variety of fans and she gives a huge percentage of her money to charity, including churches. Doesn’t seem too shocking for there to be one priest amongst any random group of 15,000 people.

“Wasn’t she just looking for a way out of this mess?”

She doesn’t know what she wants right now. Very confused.

  20. Jack Violet Says:

I love the Other Guy, hah.

Can I give one teensy criticism? The last few pages didn’t work for me (er, not the last-last few, but the ones with the marriage) because, thanks to the cover page, and also some previous panels where you can actually read it, I didn’t think Guy’s sign was any kind of surprise. Like when Parker gave him her sign, I was thinking, “but of COURSE it looks stupid for him to be holding it, duh.” Given the title and all, I thought our knowing the sign was a given, and couldn’t tell why there was such a big deal being made of it and of Stasia’s reaction. So for the book or whatnot, it would work so much better if we couldn’t see it at all before.

  21. Jack Violet Says:

Oops. Should have read all the comments on pg 20 before. In any case, I still think there’d be more surprise if pg 20 was the first time we ever saw the sign… Parker’s utter shock at what was happening on the screen and Guy’s own reaction (Stasia: Yes! Guy: Yes what?”) would work better that way, imho.

    I totally loved this though.

  22. Bobby Crosby Says:

“I didn’t think Guy’s sign was any kind of surprise.”

Yes, I keep hearing this and I’m confused by it. It wasn’t supposed to be any kind of surprise. As you say, it’s the title. There’s no way of keeping it a surprise and the surprise factor of it doesn’t matter at all.

“I thought our knowing the sign was a given, and couldn’t tell why there was such a big deal being made of it and of Stasia’s reaction.”

It was a given and I’m not sure what you mean about the big deal being made of it and Stasia’s reaction. What are you referring to exactly?

“So for the book or whatnot, it would work so much better if we couldn’t see it at all before.”

First, I don’t think it matters, since it doesn’t need to be a surprise. Second, the title alone makes it fairly obvious what the sign is anyway. Third, it’s imperative to see the sign on the cover because that tells what the plot is and makes for a cool cover/poster which could really help to sell it to Hollywood, since they can see the eventual poster right there and they can know what the high concept is just from looking at one image and reading the title. So nothing could be changed there.

“thanks to the cover page, and also some previous panels where you can actually read it”

There weren’t any previous panels where you could actually read it.

  23. Bobby Crosby Says:

Also just wanted to point out that Eisu has added the STASIA logo to Parker’s shirt for the past few pages, which looks nice! We’re considering putting that shirt up for sale, so please respond here if you think you’d buy it, so we could get an idea of how much interest there is. Thanks!

  24. DameonDark Says:

i have to agree with earlier comments about seeing the black and white before seeing the “improved” color version…

    keep up the good work

  25. Magic Gboy Says:

She will marry parker in the end, period.

  26. Jack Violet Says:

Ah, sorry. See, until you explained that Guy’s “I’ll look silly” was about the pink hearts, I thought he meant he’d look silly because, you know, he’d be proposing. And I think people saying “it wasn’t a surprise” is because it had been “hidden” in the comic, which is usually done with suprise-signs.

(You’re right about the panels, I got confused.)

I had some other reasons why I think it would read better if we didn’t know about the signs (by Stasia’s reaction, I meant the “yes!” and “yes what?”) but I understand your point about Hollywood, so I’ll let it drop.

  27. Jack Violet Says:

This should have gone in my last comment, but like I said, this was only a minor squibble. I think the comic is great in general (and the art is flat-out-amazing), so it’s not like this is any big deal. :-)

  28. Bobby Crosby Says:

“See, until you explained that Guy’s ‘I’ll look silly’ was about the pink hearts, I thought he meant he’d look silly because, you know, he’d be proposing.”

No, you were right. He would have said the same thing even if there were no pink hearts (and the hearts aren’t actually pink — they’re yellow — but the “Other Guy” simply remembered a pink sign with hearts, so he said “pink hearts”).

It’s also important that things not be too confusing. I want people to know what the sign says from the start, since we skip over the marriage and they need to guess at what happened initially, although there are many hints given as to what happened. Hiding the sign in the interior pages just adds a bit of mystery to it and somehow makes the skipping of the marriage scene seem more acceptable, I think, like “Oh, we’re not seeing what happened for a reason, just like we’re not seeing the sign for a reason,” and the actual reasons for that never really need to be fully explained in the comic itself, but as long as the reader/audience thinks there’s a reason, that helps the flow of it and makes them hold off a bit before going “Wait, what?” (title of Page 10).

  29. Namsab Says:

Hahaha, love the hidden jokes! The other guy, the real ‘Guy’ with no last name yet… *lessthanthree*

Aww, Stasia looks actually sad in the last panel…

  30. Zeusandhera Says:

I just thought of something silly. If you are ever in a situation where someone asks “if anyone has the power vested in them to marry”, you can step up as an Ordained Minister if you sign up at the Universal Life Church. (ulc.net) Read the site for more details.

It’s good to be prepared for whatever life throws at you.

  31. Lydia Says:

Haha, I bet Bernie is the “Pop Culture Expert” or something. You know, one of those labels they give interview-ees.

  32. maria Says:

I just post this again, because I don’t think anyone will be reading the comments of the previous strip anymore…

    I just wanted to say,
The popstar this is all based on (or at least the name), recently married her bodyguard!!! Wich was by the way in a previous relationship when he first ‘made love’ to her. So that’s way more rude than our Guy. And I thought his thing said about the weddingnight was still verry okay. I mean, who want’s to be married to a man who’s acting to be a gentlemen. Just give me a real guy who is honnest..

I read all the comments on this page because I thought more people would find that funny, but nobody said anything about it yet.

  33. Bobby Crosby Says:

I already responded to it actually, but I’ll post my response again here –
    ————–
“The popstar this is all based on (or at least the name), recently married her bodyguard!!!”

Do you mean the musician named Stasia? I briefly looked up the name “Stasia” years ago when I first named her and found at least one singer who went by the name, but she wasn’t very famous, as far as I could tell. That’s interesting, though. The Stasia in this comic is certainly not based on anyone in real life, though, just to make that clear. Roseanne Barr also married her bodyguard once. It’s a trend! Maybe the Stasia in this story will marry Denny (”cave troll” bodyguard) by the end of the graphic novel.
    ————-

  34. Larry Bernard Says:

See now the whole publicity stunt needs to be nipped in the bud so they have a sham marriage angle is coming

  35. maria Says:

Anastacia (I thought.. :S but okay)

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=406438&in_page_id=1773

  36. Valerie Says:

    Ooooh, Stasia’s in troubllllle… XD

(Oh, and Eisu, sorry about the eye thing.)

“Also just wanted to point out that Eisu has added the STASIA logo to Parker’s shirt for the past few pages, which looks nice! We’re considering putting that shirt up for sale, so please respond here if you think you’d buy it, so we could get an idea of how much interest there is. Thanks!”

OMG Parker’s shirt! o_o Maaan, I’d buy it! Just please don’t make it like, $30 or something. XD

“She will marry parker in the end, period.”

Eh, unfortunately for Parker, I don’t think so.

“Maybe the Stasia in this story will marry Denny (”cave troll” bodyguard) by the end of the graphic novel.”

No!! Don’t do that, Bobby! XD

  37. Auzzie-Phoenix Says:

Bobby, this is an excellent comic. I started reading it not too long ago, and I’m impressed. You’ve got me hooked. Have you considered cgi as a possible way of having the movie done?

  38. FreeSample Says:

I was going to say that the man in the first panel looked like an early draft for Guy, but someone already said it! xD

  39. Borys Says:

    Ahoj!
    FWIW
Stasia - that’s the diminutive/shorter form of the Polish name Stanisława, or Stanislawa if written without the “bared L”.

Nowadays it is rare. But it still might be recognized by the Polish-American community as “our own”.

Piece of trivia - a Polish singer called Barbara Trzetrzelewska tried to make a career in the States, but failed. As her family name was a bit difficult, she used the diminutive of Barbara - i.e. Basia - only. That didn’t help …

Both cases - Stasia and Basia - would be pronounced with a “sh” in the middle by a Polish speaker - Stashya and Bashya.

    Borys

  40. Kina Says:

    Eisu:

I adore how uncomfortable you made Guy look during the exchanging of vows. It is just PERFECT. :)

  41. Bobby Crosby Says:

    Interesting stuff, Borys!

“Have you considered cgi as a possible way of having the movie done?”

Nah, a movie like this almost has to be live action, I think. And even CGI would be too expensive at this point for me to make myself or even raise enough money to make myself. Would be at least half a million bucks probably. I’m getting more confident all the time about selling it to Hollywood, though.

“OMG Parker’s shirt! o_o Maaan, I’d buy it! Just please don’t make it like, $30 or something. XD”

    Cool. I’m sure they’d be under $20.

  42. Justin Says:

Am I the only one who thinks that Parker had something to do with the priest being there? Yeah, Stasia accepting was a one in a billion shot, but Parker’s a big enough fan to try- send an anonymous note to a priest saying that his services will be needed at an upcoming concert. The priest assumes it was Guy, and there you have it.

  43. Duckity Says:

Aww… poor Stasia looks so damn adorable in that last panel.
and that guy in the first panel looks adorable too. xD

  44. Veralidaine Sarrasri Says:

Shouldn’t they get the whole story before they go critisizing poor Stasia? Gosh, that’s so uncool of the dude.

  45. totz Says:

Veralidaine: I agree with you, but it’s a sad fact of life here in America that a) celebrities seem to be the main focus of the news media, and b) that anything they do shapes the public image of them.

  46. Bobby Crosby Says:

Yeah, the press never waits for the whole story, especially entertainment journalists.

  47. Valerie Says:

Well, celebrities are supposed to be like superheroes to us “normal folk”… At least, I guess that’s the point. I’ve never really understood the obsession over celebrities, myself. Like…

    “Omg, she’s perfect!”
    “She doesn’t like dogs.”
“OMG WHAT?! THAT’S LIKE, SO TOTALLY OMGosh!!”

Psh, I dunno. People are just weird. XD

  48. Alecks Says:

    OMG!!!!!!!

I just LOVE the irony here…

“it’s so improbable it must be made up”….

    wait a sec….

    it is made up…

In the real world…. woah O_O

  49. Alecks Says:

and is that the first design of Guy talking about his tough luck? The boyish one?

If so, that was an AWESOME decision. Really. There’s delicious irony there too.

Did anyone name that guy yet?

He should be Gus. Or Gary. :)

  50. Bobby Crosby Says:

Alecks, a couple people mentioned that earlier and I posted this conversation that I had with Eisu –
    —————
Eisu: the fan on the first page?
the first design of Guy ^o^
and he’s holding the cover version of the Marry Me sign ^o^

me: LOL, I almost even told you to do that!
I was considering saying that in the script!
To say “Just have him look like the first Guy design,” ha.

    Eisu: ha ha ha, awesome

    me: Ha, yeah, that’s great.

    Eisu: total sub-concious link
    ————–

  51. marcie Says:

    man, people are harsh.

  52. Jade Says:

*flail* I though it’d be up late, as I’m in a time zone several hours ahead of America; but I get up and here it is.

I’m utterly unsurprised by the way the press reacted; but it still makes me feel for them both. Aii, but Guy’s face when you see the priest coming on stage- wonderful!

As awesome as ever. Roll on, Wednesday.

  53. Bobby Crosby Says:

I have good news for you, Jade: Page 22 is actually a late Friday update (went up on Saturday), so you won’t even have to wait until Wednesday for a new page. Most likely there will be a new one under 24 hours from now.

  54. Gladi Says:

    Bright day
Nice comic both overall and this page. It also answers my confusion if Guy is pronounced the basic english way or the actually good sounding French way :(.

  55. K.C.(NPP forum member I'm a Pony) Says:

Eh Heh heh heh… Poor little pretty-boy-Guy. At least you saved him from the fate of complete non-existince.

  56. Tegan Says:

i’ve been reading since about the third time, first time commenting. love the story so far. :) but poor pre-Guy Guy, he actually wanted to marry Stasia too! i feel bad for him now.

  57. Tegan Says:

and by “third time” i totally meant “third comic” - must check before posting!

  58. dragonmage Says:

Fantastic page! Eisu’s done a great job again. Poor Stasia, I feel bad for her, I would hate to have my life broadcast and criticized on national TV.

  59. Quarion Says:

I don’t think the shirt would fit on my huge broad chest but I wouldn’t say not to a copy of Parker’s other poster.

and was the “And we don’t even have a last name for him yet.” bit part of the original script or did I help to inspire it?

  60. Valerie Says:

“I wouldn’t say no to a copy of Parker’s other poster.”

Amen to that. o_o; ‘Cept my family doesn’t know I’m like that, so I’d have to wait until I get my own place. XD But after that? Totally.

  61. Bobby Crosby Says:

“and was the ‘And we don’t even have a last name for him yet.’ bit part of the original script or did I help to inspire it?”

Original script. I don’t even know what you’re referring to. I’m bad with names, though. Several people have asked what Guy’s last name is, though. We’ll find out soon enough.

We plan to put out Parker’s poster from Page 3 eventually!

  62. Kathleen Says:

methinks that the guy holding the sign in panel one is a salute to the first designs for Guy? they look similar anyway… hehe

  63. Ra-Se-Phan Says:

Love the fact that you used Guys old design as the other Guy with the “Marry Me” sign
