Page 47: Africa
Sunday, October 7th, 2007In my research on Nairobi I discovered that it has two drive-in movie theaters, which I think is pretty cool. Maybe we’ll see one of those in a later scene.

O.O wow i think i am the first jeje It seems that guy knows better Anna which she thinks.
I love this Comic xD
October 7th, 2007 at 4:02 pm
“i know where we’re going”
guy is great at figuring things out.
i love stasias stance in the last panel
October 7th, 2007 at 4:08 pm
Another great page.
October 7th, 2007 at 4:31 pm
heh… I love the bodyguard in panel #1
October 7th, 2007 at 4:55 pm
Heh, at the risk of sounding corny, he read her like a book :p
October 7th, 2007 at 4:58 pm
I don’t think there’s anywhere Stasia can run that her father can’t follow. Maybe she can buy enough time to be ready to face him, maybe she can’t. But barring a cardiac event on Dad’s part, they’re gonna have to thrash this out eventually.
October 7th, 2007 at 5:10 pm
Smart guy.
October 7th, 2007 at 6:06 pm
oooh, somebody’s observant
October 7th, 2007 at 6:56 pm
Something good he says. I wonder how she’s going to take the implication that her impulse and its consequences are good. :p
October 7th, 2007 at 9:22 pm
Happy Happy Joy Joy!
A new page!
October 7th, 2007 at 9:58 pm
“Something good he says. I wonder how she’s going to take the implication that her impulse and its consequences are good.”
He actually implied that something bad happened, then she asked if he thinks something bad happened, then he said he didn’t know and once again implied that something bad happened.
October 7th, 2007 at 10:40 pm
lol 12th post…almost as good as first, only not really
anyway, wow thanks for the quick update, great stuff as always, this comic is my guilty pleasure
October 7th, 2007 at 10:50 pm
Top twenty!
I couldn’t pass the chance up…
Me thinks she will get pissy at him, their first fight is eminent!
October 7th, 2007 at 10:59 pm
Aww, I want a Guy of my own.
Oh wait, I have one
New page later today would be AMAZING. Here’s hoping that nothing happens to Eisu to prevent it XD
October 7th, 2007 at 11:30 pm
I must say, this comic is quite enjoyable except for one thing… please update more XP!
October 7th, 2007 at 11:39 pm
“Me thinks she will get pissy at him, their first fight is eminent!”
They had their first fight on Page 20, which was called “First Fight.”
October 7th, 2007 at 11:40 pm
I wonder if this will lead Stasia to reevaluate whether it is a good idea to deal with an impuslive decision by impulsivel running away…
Guy is so awesome!!!
October 8th, 2007 at 12:19 am
I can’t wait until the confrontation with You Know Who.
October 8th, 2007 at 1:10 am
Guy is really good at this. O_O
Thanks for the hard work Bobby and Eisu! I’m still in love with Marry Me.
October 8th, 2007 at 2:32 am
Huh. Took me a while, but Guy is actually rather attractive.
October 8th, 2007 at 3:56 am
I love the facial expressions in panel 1.
Also, I didn’t manage to find a non-anonymous email maker thing, even though Google. It said that most are from work places / college, which makes sense. I’m going to see if my school has them as well. Wish me luck (again)!
October 8th, 2007 at 6:07 am
Oh, admit it. Guy is a CLUE-nerd.
October 8th, 2007 at 7:22 am
by damn, he’s right
October 8th, 2007 at 7:50 am
Well, Guy is rather insightful, which one would have to assume is a good thing. Funny, though, how Stasia infers that he is saying something “bad” happened when his actual implication is that *Stasia* thinks something bad has happened.
You know, right now, Stasia must have one of the most unique entourages in the music biz…
October 8th, 2007 at 8:44 am
Man, I wish I was that good at reading analytically…
October 8th, 2007 at 9:30 am
I really like the third, fifth, and sixth panels… (Not quite sure why. )
Guy’s to smart for his own good. >=o
October 8th, 2007 at 10:38 am
I love how perceptive Guy is. Part of being a counselor, I guess.
I think that, even if Stasia doesn’t fall for him (come on, it’s imminent, people!!) that Guy is going to become someone who she can go to for help, no matter what.
I’m LOVING your work guys!! I think the whole ‘erratic update’ thing just keeps people on their toes. ^^
Anyways, take all the time you need, guys. Only hacks rush their product out by a certain date. I’d rather wait weeks and have good readings, and get one every other day and read crap.
October 8th, 2007 at 10:39 am
*facepalm* It should be ‘I’d rather wait weeks and have good readings, THAN get one every other day and read crap.’ Sorry. I’m okay…really…
October 8th, 2007 at 10:54 am
“I can’t wait until the confrontation with You Know Who.”…Voldemort?
October 8th, 2007 at 11:32 am
Man. Guy’s a smug bastard.
Observant, yes, but smug none the less. It takes some pretty serious cojones to be that point blank about an analysis he made in two days with a woman he barely knows. His saving grace, of course, is that he’s right.
Nothin’ wrong with being smug bastard, so long as you’re not bad about it.
October 8th, 2007 at 12:07 pm
Hmm…. 8 days, 3 comics. That would put the comic about on track methinks.
October 8th, 2007 at 12:59 pm
omg… Eisu, i have to congratulate you, the graphics are awesome, they look better than ever! Scripting is cool too! I’m wondering what Stasia’s replies will be?!?!
October 8th, 2007 at 2:10 pm
Wow, Guy is really perceptive! Kudos to him! I wonder if we’ll find out some more about what drove Stasia to want to marry Guy at her concert.
October 8th, 2007 at 2:37 pm
surprisingly, that seems to work out pretty well storywise. Sure, lets go to Africa! I mean, who doesn’t wanna go there, right?
BTW, Lovin’ the comic from start to right now!
October 8th, 2007 at 2:40 pm
There was supposed to be an update today, but I ran out of some drawing materials and need to get a new one before I can continue T_T In fact, that drawing material ran out drawing THIS page…
October 8th, 2007 at 3:19 pm
Take your time Eisu…
Not a LOT of time, but we can wait.
Oh, I saw the animations for “No Pink Ponies” on “Zap” Brilliant.
October 8th, 2007 at 4:36 pm
Love the work so far ^_^
hehehe….Guy knows all XD
October 8th, 2007 at 4:46 pm
I’ve been following this for a while, and I must say that this page is the best, artistic wise. And, if you’re a hopeless romantic like me, you can squeal in delight that Guy can read Ana like a open book. (no pun intended)
^.^
October 8th, 2007 at 5:54 pm
Love to page, as always. Looking forward to following the story as it progresses. You guys rock.
October 8th, 2007 at 5:57 pm
Heh, “love THE page”. I’m worse than Pamela. XD
October 8th, 2007 at 7:13 pm
Great page as usual! Does this site have an archive anywhere? I don’t seem to be able to find one.
October 8th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
Not sure what you mean. Just go to marrymemovie.com and see the cover, then click on FIRST PAGE (or on the cover image itself) to see the first page, then click on the “Page 2: Pep Talk” link below the first page to see the second page, and so on. There’s also a dropdown menu that links to all the pages above each page. Or you could just click on the highlighted days on the calendar up there that show whenever a page is updated. Could just cycle back to February and read through like that. And if you’re in America you can download the free PDFs on WOWIO and have them saved to your computer. Anyway, million ways.
October 8th, 2007 at 7:29 pm
drop down tab above the comic
October 8th, 2007 at 11:42 pm
Kinda’ random, but I am pretty freaking impressed by the top panel.. the power lines/structure on the right. Very clean yet detailed little corner of the comic.
October 8th, 2007 at 11:59 pm
Sorry can’t resist… We got ze Stasia… ONLY IN KENYA
October 9th, 2007 at 3:22 am
Well, I guess that helping with charities and so on is a much better way to cope with stress than going berserk and killing your co-workers, etc.
Great page, as always!
Eisu, the art is really clear and nice here - I love the first panel, especially. What always strikes me is the poses that you draw Stasia - they deliver her emotions perfectly, I love them.
Mr. Crosby, I love your story. It’s so engaging. That’s the thing - it doesn’t matter at all how long it takes between seeing each page. You get engaged back in the story almost instantly when a new page goes up.
Thank you so much for putting this online - it’ll be a real honour, when it comes out in the movies, to look at it and tell people that I was there from the beginning, reading along when it was on the web.
Thank you, and well done!
October 9th, 2007 at 8:59 am
Guy’s going to need his passport. So is Parker, if she’s going. Did they bring them for ID at the concert?
Good work with the comic so far. It’s great. =)
October 9th, 2007 at 2:36 pm
Hullo there. Long time reader, first time commenting (I think?) I love the comic and also occasionally read +Ev and Last Blood. I’ve been reading back through some comments, which is the reason for today’s comment.
I’m an animal trainer in my offline life and I would like to mention one thing to you, Bobby- by saving your lengthiest responses for the people who comment with criticism and complaints, you’re reinforcing complainers, which is why you get the same type of comments page after page and have to type ruder and ruder and more and more angry replies to each one. Each person who wants to get a long and personal response from you only has to post something negative to get it, while most people who just leave a compliment don’t get a response at all.
I see this with my clients a lot- they will have a dog they constantly yell at for getting in the trash, but never pay attention to for lying quietly on the floor chewing a toy, and presto, dog gets in the trash 5 times a day and rarely lies quietly chewing their toy. These people usually have the same problem with their children, if they have any- they don’t reinforce the kids with hugs and compliments for playing quietly together, but when they argue, yell, and misbehave, they’re immediately reinforced with their parent’s full attention.
Something I often have to explain to my clients is that it doesn’t matter what you think is reinforcing and what you think is punishing to your dog/child/employee/reader any more than it matters if you think the sky is orange- it matters what your dog/child/employee/reader sees as reinforcing or punishing, not what they SHOULD see that way. Your comments show that you think your readers SHOULD see your angry insults of people who comment with complaints and be deterred from complaining, but the complaining readers are obviously being reinforced when you engage in arguments and back-and-forth insults with them- a behavior that increases or continues without change is being reinforced.
If you really get that much satisfaction from insulting and angrily responding to every complainer, by all means, continue- if you enjoy it, then it will be reinforcing to you when the behavior of reinforcing complaints creates more complaints, and everyone will be happy. Side effects include being perceived by some people as a real jerk, which, again, may be reinforcing to you- plenty of people enjoy that reputation. But if you would really rather have fewer complaints and more compliments, you should try using extinction- a behavior that is not reinforced will disappear on its own- in other words, give no response at all to comments that you would rather people not repeat. To increase compliments, personally respond to as many as possible, addressing the person making the comment by name or with a quote.
Something to think on. I tend not to even read the comments, so it matters not at all to me, but maybe you were not aware you’re reinforcing complaints.
October 9th, 2007 at 3:10 pm
I don’t care in any way if it reinforces complaints. I don’t care what those idiots do and for the past several months I’ve been instantly banning almost all of them, which you might not have noticed. You mentioned a “back and forth” — there’s been almost zero back and forth with the same people in the past several months because they’ve been banned. I write a response to them while banning them at the same time, so your whole theory is incorrect basically when it comes to the comments for this site.
“it doesn’t matter what you think is reinforcing and what you think is punishing to your dog/child/employee/reader”
Punishing? Reinforcing? I’m just responding the only way I know how to respond. If you think that angry comments can be compared to a dog “getting in the trash,” you’re not very smart. Obviously a dog owner would want to do anything they could to stop the dog from getting in the trash. Why would I give a fuck if people keep making angry comments when I can just ban the people who made them with one click? Which is what I do in the severe enough cases. And while doing so I respond and tell them how stupid they are and they CAN’T respond, because they’re banned.
October 9th, 2007 at 3:16 pm
I think everyone should just do some charity work…
October 10th, 2007 at 10:38 am
I had stumbled across this web comic long ago and jsut feel in love with all the random choas that this couple is creating. Its so adorable and endearing its what keeps me around checking for another update. I have not been phased by the fact that some updates take a while becuase I think its worth the wait to see the page that you guys put effort into. I just want to know if the two are actualy married or not. The suspense is killing me along with how is Guy going to handle Stasias dad. I am just confused on one thing….Stasia’s sister calls her Ana yet everyone else refers to her as Stasia….does that mean her name is Anastasia? Something thats been bothering me And I haven’t seen anything linking or explaining that so I thought I ask. If there was some side not explaining it I’m sorry for appearing naive.
Anyways keep up the wonderful work I l ook forward to the next post. ^_^
October 10th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
btw Eisu, when will we be able to see your next masterpiece?! Have you bought more art material? I’d help by downloading from WOWIO but I’m European. Ahh well… you’ve got my full moral support ^^
Bobby don’t forget to get the next scripts ready for when Eisu finishes the artwork for the last script you sent her ^^
Good Luck to you both from your biggest fan
October 10th, 2007 at 3:36 pm
Proxess — Eisu is a guy!
October 10th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
Her name is Anastasia Tyler, yes.
October 10th, 2007 at 8:20 pm
I’ve been seeing this comic for a while but I never read it. Now that I have I love it and can’t wait for the next page! Great job guys on creating this idea!
October 11th, 2007 at 12:16 am
ups… my mistake… ^^
October 11th, 2007 at 12:15 pm
Bobby-
Lisa’s comment was just learning techniques and psychology, and I don’t think it’s very fair for you to criticize her intellect because of what she said. A lot of what she said has merit and has been proven time and time again. You probably won’t care about my comment either, but oh well.
Regardless of your attitude towards commenters, I do love the story and Eisu’s artwork. That’s what really gets me coming back. Also, I love Guy. Very insightful dude.
October 11th, 2007 at 12:40 pm
“A lot of what she said has merit and has been proven time and time again.”
It has merit in animal training, yes, but it doesn’t apply in any way to this situation, since as I said multiple times, I can just ban these people, as I have been doing, and then they can’t continue the same behavior.
“and I don’t think it’s very fair for you to criticize her intellect because of what she said.”
She tried to act as if she was an expert on this situation, when her entire premise was flawed because of a lack of reading comprehension, along with many specific things that she said, like this –
“in other words, give no response at all to comments that you would rather people not repeat.”
The main reason I give a response is to CORRECT LIES, as I’ve said numerous times. When a dog gets in the trash, you don’t have to clear your name because of it, which is just one reason why these things are incomparable.
She also said that either I was a stupid asshole or I insult people for fun because I like having a reputation as a jerk, both of which are very wrong, in my opinion, so it makes no sense for you to say that it’s unfair for me to call her “not very smart.” (It might not have been her intent to say those things, but that’s certainly how it came off.)
Also, she’s obviously doing the same thing that she’s saying others are acting like bad animals for doing. She’s claiming to have read tons of the comments, and if that’s the case, she’s read numerous times where I’ve said that I will no longer allow comments to be about me instead of about the comic. The vast majority of her super long comment was about me. I left it up, as I’ve done some others, because she at least wasn’t acting like a total asshole and seemed to be trying to help (maybe) as opposed to just trashing me, but who knows, maybe it was a test to see if I’d allow a “back and forth” with her and then she’d say, “See, you’re not banning me, you keep responding, so you’ve failed the ‘dog getting in the trash’ test. You should have deleted my first comment instantly.”
October 11th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
FIRST!!!1!
…
Oh, poop.
October 12th, 2007 at 11:28 am
Umm… on the topic of the comic: LOVE it! Guy is remarkably perceptive about Ana and seems like he’ll be a good counter-balance. I mean, he’s read her biography and already knows something about her that her own family doesn’t … that’s SHWEET.
As to the thread regarding reinforcement: research can be made to say whatever the researcher wants it to say merely by skewing the statistical results and then be applied, erroneously or not, to any situation that seems compatible. Positive reinforcement of good behaviors, which is where I think Lisa was going, is an educational paradigm that we teachers are force-fed quite a bit. It works in spurts, but humans are far less malleable than animals in terms of training - especially grown people.
