I be the one who named Denny… well, Denny.

  15. fate Says:

some tribes in africa drink blood as a way of getting nutrients not normally human blood though.

  16. Bobby Crosby Says:

I’ll link to this once again, 6:10 to 6:50 –

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meEz3qV_RRc

  17. Elliot Kane Says:

Cattle blood drinking is a Masai tradition, I know that (I think they mix it with milk, but it’s been a LONG time since I read about it, so I’m not sure). I don’t think that this kind of custom is well known in the West, so kudos to Bobby for some seriously good research.

And on a story level - kudos to Stasia for such a great test! That’ll sort the men from the boys :)

  18. Hala Says:

    wooooooooow! hahaha i love that…

  19. Greyman Says:

Hey. Who does not love cows’ blood? MMmm, cows’ blood…

  20. moebius8 Says:

must be masai they drink cows blood mixed with milk. high in protein and doesnt kill the cow.
dont know if its part of a greeting ritual but could be i guess if the benefactoress wanted it too be.

  21. Kara Says:

    EEEEE!!!

Thank you for the week of posts!! You guys are my heros!!!

    Great scene!

  22. Dustin Says:

    O_o

Also, why does Denny warn Parker off like that? They aren’t friends, but he seemed excessively angry.

  23. Bobby Crosby Says:

She was basically trying to make him drop the million things he was holding by grabbing a bag and making him lose his careful balance. She was doing it as a joke for fun and she was fairly certain that he was going to react exactly as he did, which simply made her laugh. He wasn’t really “angry” — just scared that her joke was gonna make him drop everything.

  24. invaderhog Says:

probably becuase he was carrying all that crap. Parker seems like the accident prone type… lol, Guy, please pull through all of Stasia’s tests (I swear that’s what this has got to be… I think…. hopefully… heh… eww…)

  25. Shan Says:

I would so react the way Denny did just then.

I think blood drinking Stasia is cute. In a very creepy way.

  26. DrakeHetaro Says:

Actually, some rural people do drink cow blood and milk mixed together…

And Stasia’s face in the last panel just made me laugh. XD

  27. annekat Says:

    mmmm blood

  28. Scaramouche Says:

    … DUDE.

    Best last panel ever.

  29. Lydia Says:

Hey, I downloaded the 3rd issue yesterday ;D

And yes, I have to agree with everyone else on this one. Stasia just earned herself some major points in my book.

  30. nekki Says:

lol guy isn’t going to bat an eyelash at it if he’s a real oklahoma boy. trust me on that one. he’ll just get his mug down it and probably ask for some more.

this coming from an oklahoma boy who likes his steaks threatened by a picture of fire and brought to him

  31. Bobby Crosby Says:

Everyone (in America) follow Lydia’s lead and download the third issue! And the first two if you haven’t done so yet!

Also, nekki is even more correct than he knows!

  32. nekki Says:

lol yay i’m right :D but yeah cow blood, pigs blood, blood of the guy you just beat up at the bar.. all taste good to us oklahomans

  33. Ally Says:

Hnh. I feel a change in genre coming on. Also? Never been cuter.

  34. CaptainWasabi Says:

isn’t Guy a vegetarian or something? Could be a problem.

  35. Eisu Says:

“isn’t Guy a vegetarian or something? Could be a problem.”

Wait, since when was he a vegetarian? I mean, we never mentioned that…

  36. Kat Says:

lol this is great! mmmmm…. blood OvvO

  37. Melinda Good Says:

It wouldn’t matter if he was a vegetarian. The fact is, the cows are not harmed when their blood is harvested… so therefore, even a vegetarian would not have a moral reason to not drink it. They do not eat meat because it is dead animal, and some animal had to die in order for them to eat it. This is a way to get the same vitamins and nutrients without killing the animal. Therefore, even if you’re a vegetarian, there will not really be a solid excuse to object.

  38. William Says:

Wow, i can’t believe i was actually right a few comics ago when I said they would be drinking blood…..just…..wow. haha.

And I don’t remember anything about guy being a vegetarian, but just because he is (if he is), doesn’t mean he can’t drink the blood, he just can’t eat meat :-P

  39. Rubio Says:

Of course, the real question here is, whose blood is it?

    I’d drink it, anyway.

  40. James Says:

Dont eat glass. It tastes like blood.

  41. Martha Says:

You sure have a thing for vampires, huh Bobby? *laughs*

  42. Andrew Says:

    *goes white a faints*

  43. Jenn Says:

But.. William, …. “And I don’t remember anything about guy being a vegetarian, but just because he is (if he is), doesn’t mean he can’t drink the blood, he just can’t eat meat”..

Most vegetarians don’t consume anything from anything with a face unless it’s eggs or milk.

Basically.. if you have to kill it to get what you’re serving, they won’t eat it…

Vegan is a whole other story… lol.. nothing from an animal ever!! ((i’d die.. i love my meat.))

  44. Jenn Says:

    hm… I thought Guy was a vegetarian, too…

    maybe he isn’t..

I think I totally confused him with the guy who played the husband-to-be: vegetarian teacher in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”.

    —-

BTW, tradition or not, blood drinking is freakin’ creepy… but..

    Stasia is cute… hardcore.

  45. JessieM Says:

LMAO!!! I wonder if they are ‘man’ enough to drink the blood!!! LOL

  46. JKPS613 Says:

    Wow.
    Blood.

Guess if he drinks that, it really IS tru luv! <3 <3

    …That’s not really blood, right?

  47. Endless Says:

Oh Bobby, you sure do like bloo din your comics

  48. Endless Says:

I was i nKenya and Tanzania last year and got to go to a couple Masia villages, a couple touristy ones and one that was impossible to drive to.

In Masai culture your wealth is centered aroudn to number of cows that man posses. So it’s not smart to kill you wealth for food. So they bleed a cow of anywhere form 2-4 pnts of blood and then send the cow on it’s way.

They then mix the blood with milk and stir it with a twiggy stick until the blood caturizes and the milk curdles. Then they roast the blood milk combo into someething that is essentially beef. But some villages also just serve the blood and milk together without roasting as a drink during special occasions.

We were offered some of the roast but our guide advised us against it. We have’t build up resistances to whatever germs are in it.

  49. RH Says:

I want to see Denny drink blood. Talk about one scary panel! Of course, they’d probably have to slaughter several cattle for enough blood for Denny’s protein requirements, instead of just draining a little while keeping the animal alive.

I can’t tell if Stasia planned to look creepy as all hell in the last panel as part of her presentation, or if she’s as surprised as any that there’s blood in her teeth… either way it looks hillarious and awesome at the same time!

And as for those who think blood drinking is disgusting. The first thing you learn in any course relating to anthropology is how terribly local your preference for food is. It tends to be even more local than language or customs.

  50. nekki Says:

if you are having to cross a desert and run out of water the best thing you could do is drink blood from your mount. :sage nod:

  51. La Fille Says:

    Mega nastyyyyyyy

  52. Katy Says:

*laugh* LOVE Stasia in the last panel - that is TOO adorable, with the blood on her teeth and wiping the rivulet of blood off her chin! And I think people are getting the idea that Guy is vegetarian because of the glasses, bit of a beard and gentle nature - he just sort of looks book-wormish and literate and like he would be one of those people who would be a vegetarian. Of course, living in Oklahoma, he would be seriously ostracized if he were a vegetarian - folk in the cattle country are carnivores and darn proud of it! :-)

  53. Bobby Crosby Says:

Just to be clear, Guy’s definitely not a vegetarian.

  54. Ryah Says:

I was totally not expecting that! This comic is getting more and more amazing!

  55. Amelia Davis Says:

lol, that’s great XD *ready for next page*
ohhhh I love the cover for the third book!!!! *goes and gets it * ^_^
I was wondering if you had any 40×200 link images for your comic that I could use in my links beacuse I love your comic to the max and I want to tell the world!! :D

  56. EMC Says:

    *vegan* :s

    that is so not natural…

  57. Mikaela Says:

Um.. ew? Blood with MILK? EW! Milk is so gross!! And… wouldn’t the consistencies be all weird with the milk and the blood? I hope that blood doesn’t have milk in it >_<. I do love Stasia’s expression in the last panel, though… probably the most adorable I’ve ever seen someone with blood on their teeth!

  58. Celes Says:

    Awesome as always, guys.

I noticed you’ve been updating more, lately. Pretty awesome. This comic is so fun.

  59. Evil713 Says:

i saw the movie when it was posted like 5 pages ago, i new this was going to happen, and im still disturbed, but im also amused, nothing like a hot cup of calf blood after a long day of work in africa.

  60. Ayashi Says:

some of the best dialogue ever written, hurry up and get famous bobby gawd.

  61. Chris Says:

    BLOOOD!

    NOT FUNNYYYYY

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fVDGu82FeQ

  62. Bobby Crosby Says:

“was wondering if you had any 40×200 link images”

I don’t believe so. Feel free to make one yourself if you want.

  63. Rosebud Says:

Definitely not kosher or halal. =P (Which is fine, but there are some omnivores — Guy not included — who would have reason to object. Different cultures have reasons for what was and was not permitted.) Though this is the first I ever learned of a tradition of blood drinking (outside of vampires, of course). You learn something new and gross — er, I mean interesting — everyday, I guess.

As for the other comments, I thought vegetarian in Oklahoma meant chicken?

  64. DSil Says:

Yep. I thought this comic was overdue for a crossover with Last Blood.

  65. Micah Says:

Food wise I’ll generally try anything (that isn’t actually still alive) at least once. Drinking raw blood, however, is extremely unappetizing to me. I like steak rare, I’ve had blood sausage, and I love sushi. I’ve even had raw beef before. But just thinking of drinking blood, the consistency and texture, as well as taste, I don’t know. I think that’s on delicacy I really would only try once…

  66. Tseng Says:

I was at a welcoming party for a Filipino family, and they had a lot of traditional meals, and one of them was a beef stew where the broth mostly comprised of cattle blood. At the time, I was in the middle of my “experience new things and cultures” phase, so I had a big bowl of it. Add enough spices, and it’s not bad at all.

    But no, it’s not kosher.

Hah! Tseng is a Vampire! Blah! BLAH!

  67. CaptainWasabi Says:

hmm, for some reason I thought Guy was Buddhist, which would make him a vegetarian.

  68. KezaKat Says:

Heh, I wonder if this is one of the “tests” =P

  69. Jianre M. Says:

Depends on the Vegetarian and his/her definition of standard really…

as for drinking blood… my only issue would be that it’s unsanitary. :/ very much so…

other than that… *shrug* I’m all for Vampires!

  70. Clyde Says:

I don’t see how the next page can disappoint me. This should be entertaining. I don’t think Guy would be stingy, since he seems VERY well educated, so he probably knows the custom, but Parker might be just a little wigged out.

  71. nekki Says:

lol buddists arn’t instantly vegitarian. and yeah vegitarian in oklahoma just means no beef or pork. and if you say vegan you get strung up

  72. Siana Says:

I think Guy will try it, but what about Denny? he was just pulled into this, he’s doesnt even get a chance to be with Stasia in exchange! lol. poor guy.

im interested in what the village people believe about the blood that means the guys have to drink it but not the women. Is it supposed to be purifying or something? Or maybe it’s just a test of commitment, like it is for Stasia. :)

And how did her other jerkoff boyfriends ever pass this test?

  73. VisionAri Says:

“this coming from an oklahoma boy who likes his steaks threatened by a picture of fire and brought to him”

That is so cute! I’m not being sarcastic, either; it really made me giggle.

    Anyhoo…

Once again, I have to express my adoration of Denny. And poor Janny’s looking a little green there in the fourth panel; I wonder if she’ll get a pregnant-lady exemption from the blood drinking.

  74. Wolf Says:

    rofl

    Poor Denny.

And I love the look on Stasia’s face in the last panel.

I could seriously see it being accompanied by scary music and/or insane laughter.

  75. bob Says:

“She was basically trying to make him drop the million things he was holding by grabbing a bag and making him lose his careful balance. She was doing it as a joke for fun and she was fairly certain that he was going to react exactly as he did, which simply made her laugh. He wasn’t really “angry” — just scared that her joke was gonna make him drop everything.”

Ahh. i did not see that. i thought parker was trying to get out of carrying anything heavy and so went for the smallest! i like yours better, think i need more explanation.. ;)
