Page 68: Probably Not Married
Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008The Samburu people, which includes Umoja, conclude their wedding ceremonies with the slaughter of a bull inside a hut guarded by the bride’s mother. Pretty interesting.

Betcha Stasia is finally gonna say whether or not she thinks they are married and also if she thinks it’s a good or a bad thing.
April 2nd, 2008 at 5:51 pm
slaughtering bulls eh? that would make for a pretty interesting ceremony. i assume the bull is eaten afterwards?
April 2nd, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Wow, I’d like to go to one of there weddings. Also, like the outfits that these guys wear, very colorful. Where they made-up, or was there a refrence picture(s)?
April 2nd, 2008 at 6:16 pm
Heh, I like how you did the expressions in the first panel. Most of the natives look pretty natural, with the outsiders looking kinda goofy and out of place, little more bug-eyed with curiosity. Pretty awesome!
April 2nd, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Wow you guys are real good with the research here… the Dress and culture is very close to RL. Hoping Ana is going to try to talk at last.

Whee, update!
April 2nd, 2008 at 7:04 pm
Argh! Cliffhangers. How devious.
As always, love the comic, can’t wait for the next one.
April 2nd, 2008 at 7:14 pm
“Also, like the outfits that these guys wear, very colorful. Where they made-up, or was there a refrence picture(s)?”
It’s referenced to actual Umoja women’s clothings. Those are actually beads, but I’m too lazy to actually draw the beads. Heh, my bad.
April 2nd, 2008 at 7:27 pm
Dun dun dun.
April 2nd, 2008 at 7:42 pm
I love how giant Denny looks compared to everyone else
April 2nd, 2008 at 8:03 pm
I love that it is back on. I think she is going to start talking to him about what he thinks and more Q & A time. I love this comic. It is on my top 2 but I dont know what the other one is at the moment. Trying to get my wife to read this one.
April 2nd, 2008 at 8:46 pm
Hey I’ve been following this comic for sometime! It’s fabulous! Me Loves!
Anyway, when I first saw the title to this I got very worried! Nice work!
April 2nd, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Grrrrr….. Cliff hangers…..
April 2nd, 2008 at 9:14 pm
Great page guys. That last panel is probably my second favorite in the book so far. Right behind Parker peeing on herself.
April 2nd, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Cliff hangers….why why us. I want to know what happens now.
April 3rd, 2008 at 12:12 am
Just…. simply…. <3!!! You guys rule. I’m just eagerly awaiting the next page for me to devour! Keep me full guys! Keep us ALL full!
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:55 am
This’ll be good.
April 3rd, 2008 at 4:26 am
Okay! Now that the rights to Last Blood have been picked up, here’s hoping that Marry Me will be picked up soon as well. (Hope, hope, hope)
April 3rd, 2008 at 5:15 am
“I never thought about it that way” hehe, that’s great! I just love Guy’s reaction to the native culture!!!
April 3rd, 2008 at 5:19 am
Not sure how I feel about the treatment of this culture here. I’ve never heard of any custom in Africa where a bull has to be slaughtered for marriage. I understand if you intend it to be there for the sake of humor, but I feel that this whole approach of “oh, look at those crazy African tribes with their kooky blood-drinking and animal slaughtering, aren’t they just so bizarre?” is in really bad taste.
April 3rd, 2008 at 5:45 am
Bobby, do you have a link or something to a description of this ceremony? It sounds pretty interesting, I’d like to read more about it.
April 3rd, 2008 at 7:02 am
I just started reading this. so cool, so awsome!! Great clifhanger, cant wait for the next one!!
April 3rd, 2008 at 8:29 am
Just wanted to mention this, in addition to the compliments on how the Umoja women look true to life (I checked the vid =D) and how natural they look.
Eisu, congrats on the Shakespere Comic thingy that showed in the Star last Sunday. ^^

I love that Parker said she’d miss them. It’s so cute and lends reality and … it’s so Parker! XD

Oooooh she needs to talk to Guy alone ;DDD
April 3rd, 2008 at 9:51 am
Aw shi-, now I can’t wait for the next update. I keep playing possibilities of the conversation in my head.
April 3rd, 2008 at 10:09 am
Well, I see two possibilities:
1) Conversation about her feelings about their possibly-marriage up until this point
-OR-
2) Crazy wild sex in an attempt to see if they are sexually compatible.
Maybe not so much that second one, doesn’t really seem like Stasia. But then again, this is a woman who impulsively married a fan holding a sign at one of her shows…
April 3rd, 2008 at 10:34 am
Now that is funny
I don’t think she will ever stop calling him Guy
April 3rd, 2008 at 11:24 am
“psychop Says:
April 3rd, 2008 at 10:34 am

Hopefully not psychop…since its his name…unless of course it’s replaced by a pet name like “sweety” or “dear” or anything else couples use.
But on a more brain-fartish note..it took me a moment to realize that she is telling parker to sit up front…first glance thought she was gonna make everyone else sit in the back so her and guy could talk alone in the cab…dunno why.
and grats on Last Blood recieving the attention it deserves

Woosa, Bobby. Hun, just ignore the people who don’t take the time to look stuff up before they attack other people about it.
Great comic, y’all! I absolutely love it! Keep up the awesome work. It sounds odd to say it, but i can’t wait for the end, not because i want it to be over, but because i want to know what happens!
April 3rd, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Noooooz, I want them to be married~!~~
also: dun dun dunnnnn
Can’t wait for the next update! *squee*
April 3rd, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Actually, AnneKat, my mother works with a woman who comes from Africa. She gave my mother a beautiful shirt and pant set that was very colorful, much like the one portrayed here. So yes, many of their clothing is beautifully colored.
Anyways…hee hee, ‘Alone Time’. With no adorably nosy Parker. Hehe, I can’t WAIT to see more!!
April 3rd, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Very interesting, I love the colors here, they just seem to make things fit, and I also love how nonchalantly guy takes the whole ’slaughtering a bull in a hut guarded by the wive’s mother’ thing.
April 3rd, 2008 at 5:33 pm
I was going to say dun dun dunnnnn!!! but Alicia beat me to it.
April 3rd, 2008 at 7:07 pm
oh noes!!! now I must read the next page!!! where issssss ittttt? o.o
I love this comic sooo much!
I think that they’re gunna maybe talk about what they want to do if they are married… oh I hope they are. I was gunna ask my lawyer friend about it, but I dun wanna ruin my anticipation for the outcome! o.o This is an epically awesome webcomic ^_^
April 3rd, 2008 at 8:22 pm
Whoa Bobby, no need to fly off of the handle. I looked further into it and there is a part of Africa that has the bull ceremony. Most ceremonies I had heard of involved celebrating the bride and dressing her up, having a feast, etc. The bull just seemed out of place, but I admit, some more research before my post and I would have seen that.
I still feel the tone with the blood drinking was a bit off though. It was just the presentation that felt weird, that’s all.
April 3rd, 2008 at 8:29 pm
I hope they are really married, it would suck if they weren’t… emo… I love you Guy! You can slaughter my bull!
April 3rd, 2008 at 8:29 pm
“Whoa Bobby, no need to fly off of the handle.”
Banned obviously.
“I looked further into it and there is a part of Africa that has the bull ceremony.”
Uh, not just a “part of Africa,” but this specific part that they’re in. The women of Umoja are Samburu. These are real people. Rebecca is Rebecca Lolosoli, the woman who started Umoja, and there’s a YouTube video of her happily drinking blood and saying it’s very good.
“I still feel the tone with the blood drinking was a bit off though. It was just the presentation that felt weird, that’s all.”
That was all involving the non-Africans, though, so it has nothing to do with your first comment, which made no sense on any level. It’s just inventing something to whine about because you love to whine about things that you know nothing about.
April 3rd, 2008 at 8:42 pm
the bull ceremony is a big deal and it feeds the village for a long time afterward. remember cows are wealth and to kill a bull is too kill both your immediate wealth and all the calves teh bull would produce later. it takes a rich man to kill a bull is the thinking here.
April 3rd, 2008 at 9:25 pm
First off, my April 1st post on the last comic was obviously an April Fools joke. Second off, I would totally slaughter a bull for Stasia. Two if she asked me…
Again, Bobby & Eisu, awesome comic. Keep up the good work.
April 3rd, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Hmm. Guy and Stasia alone in the back. Who will spill the beans first?
(=
(Reference to panel #63, of course. Although I guess Stasia will talk first. Still, it might be amusing to see a bean spill. Possibly even romantic.)
April 3rd, 2008 at 9:47 pm
There is a mention of beans on Page 69.
April 4th, 2008 at 6:34 am
Oh the cliff! Wonderful comic, you two!
By the way, is it just me or Stasia’s hand in the fifth panel looks a bit weird? It looks like she’s pointing with her little finger. But hey, I could be wrong.
April 4th, 2008 at 6:55 am
So… Guy, here’s a knife, and in this hut over here, a bull. I think you know what has to be done.
April 4th, 2008 at 7:55 am
is it just me, or are they eating a Honeybaked ham? lucky them.
i’m thinking this next page is going to be kind of awkward. i’m thinking the high-shcool “are we dating?” awkwardness times 7,463,647,859,594,736.
denny looks so cute with his bigness. ^_^
April 4th, 2008 at 10:01 am
“banned, obviously?”
What exactly are the rules of this forum? Why is it that people cannot discuss your work?
“Uncertain” was reading your comic as a work of literature that deserves to be analyzed. He was suggesting that there might be colonialist undertones, and an element of exoticism that he felt was “in bad taste”. This is a legitimate reading of a work of literature.
And I would like to respectfully point out that the issue of “authorial authority” remains even today one of the most hotly debated aspects in the study of literature. Many, many people agree with what “Jim” said yesterday - once a work enters the public sphere, it is open to interpretation, in spite of authorial intent. *So far,* for instance, there has been no conclusive evidence for or against either the “Parker is a vampire” theory or the “Guy is joking” theory within the text itself… naturally, if you add proof later on (and obviously that’s your prerogative as an author), that will change, but at this point each interpretation is valid.
Am I really the only one on this entire forum who is amazed by how Bobby disrespects his fans? It is, of course, possible to be a fan who offers criticism.
So will this post be deleted? Am I banned?
April 4th, 2008 at 11:37 am
THE PLOT THICKINS!
April 4th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
I continue to like Guy more and more. His expression in Panel 3 is great. Obviously it’s a cultural foible, and certainly not a valid logical argument for two Americans. Yet he doesn’t say it with a mocking face, instead he really considers it. He seems the kind of guy who gives any culture, any idea credence, and takes it on their own terms. That’s a very rare, and very admirable trait.
Or maybe he’s just really good at the “I’m not mocking you” face. Or maybe he really thinks it IS a logical argument, in which case Stasia’s got herself a loony.
April 4th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
“What exactly are the rules of this forum?”
I’ve said literally no less than 70 times that anyone who ever tells me to chill out or calm down in any way will be banned, and that’s what Uncertain did, among many other horrible bannable offenses.
“Why is it that people cannot discuss your work?”
Disgusting lies like this is also a bannable offense obviously. People can discuss the work all they want. What they can’t do is tell me that it’s in really bad taste for me to make up crazy and kooky things about a race of people to make them look silly and diminish them when I made up nothing and when that clearly wasn’t the intent to anyone with a brain. When someone says I did something in really bad taste because they didn’t take two seconds to Google something, it’s disgusting. Also, they either didn’t read my blog post under the comic or chose to ignore it, which says:
“The Samburu people, which includes Umoja, conclude their wedding ceremonies with the slaughter of a bull inside a hut guarded by the bride’s mother. Pretty interesting.”
And even with all that I gave Uncertain another chance and didn’t ban him until he said more nonsense bullshit.
“Am I really the only one on this entire forum who is amazed by how Bobby disrespects his fans?”
Apparently you’ve read zero pages of comments on this site. Probably around 25% of the comments for this site are people whining about how much they hate me, brainless morons like you who can’t comprehend extremely simple things.
“It is, of course, possible to be a fan who offers criticism.”
You clearly don’t know what criticism is if you think Uncertain said anything that could be considered criticism. Uncertain simply likes to get offended for no reason whatsoever, like millions of people in the world, and he’ll start whining and saying it’s in really bad taste to make up things for the sake of humor when they weren’t made up at all and when it would have taken two seconds to look that up or to simply read the very brief blog post directly under the page where I say it’s real JUST FOR MORONS LIKE HIM who may not have believed it simply from reading the comic. But he can’t even read that.
“So will this post be deleted? Am I banned?”
You’re obviously banned, and you’ll obviously keep posting and whining anyway under different names. You’ve probably been banned before.

Chill Bobby!.. KIDDING, DON’T BAN ME ((I LUFF YOUR WORK)). lol.. Sorry..
True that though, why can’t people take like.. 2 and a half seconds or less to google shi–stuff.. ?! Is it really that hard?!
ON REAL A REAL POSTING NOTE:
Uht-Ohes…. Stasia wants to talk to Guy alone? What can this possibly mean!?
I hope she really does like him and thats what she wants to tell him.. It’ll make me sad ((and others too, possibly)) if they totally decide to go separate ways…
They’d make a totally cute couple.

this is my first comment, but I’ve read this all the way through. XD and I must say that I love this comic. Awesome job, Bobby and Eisu.
Also, I can’t believe I just got this, but Ana and Stacia are the two names she goes by, and there was a techno/pop singer called Anastacia in the 90s, I think. :3
… D: I feel slow on the uptake now.”
Could you possibly mean:
“Anastasia Horne is an American actress/singer who has appeared on television and in the theater.”
OR
“Anastacia (born Anastacia Lyn Newkirk on September 17, 1973[1]) is a multi-platinum American singer and songwriter.”?
Of course it could be a reference to the most famous Anastasia ever:
“Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Anastasia of Russia (Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova, (Russian: Великая Княжна Анастасия Николаевна Романова (June 18 [O.S. June 5] 1901 — July 17, 1918), was the youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, the last sovereign of Imperial Russia, and his wife Alexandra Fyodorovna.” Maybe you’ve heard of her? The last Romanov. They made a cartoon about her. Some people believe that she and her little brother Alexei actually survived the Russian Revolution. Her mom knew Grigori Rasputin. You know Rasputin? The mad monk/priest they tried to kill like 15 times? Please say you have some idea what I’m talking about…

“Any ideas who you’re casting yet? Know who’s playing Val?!”
From LB page 14 blog post: “This actress is one of my top choices right now to play her.” with a link to http://imdb.com/name/nm1715297/
April 5th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
“Any ideas who you’re casting yet? I mean, beside Mac.”
As a big studio picture it’s highly doubtful I’d have any say in casting. I wouldn’t be directing it and I probably won’t even be writing it, so I’d be lucky to be invited to the set even. Anyway, long way to go, anything could happen. The link Anko gave is to an actress who submitted her resume for the role after I listed the parts on a popular casting site just to see what kind of response it would get 15 months ago. Over 1,000 actors and actresses sent in resumes for the main parts, which was cool. But I was only considering people who I thought we could possibly get for an ultra low budget film. That would all change, of course, if it’s a $30 million movie. And again, it’s doubtful I’d have any say in casting. And again, anything can happen.
April 5th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
Thank You, Anko!

That sucks that you’d probably have barely any say…
Understanding it is a long way to go, I wish you all the luck in the world and hopes everything comes out according to plan!!
I really hope you guys have some say though.. I mean, I hate it when people ruin perfectly good stories.

As I’ve said many times, my version of the LB screenplay would have tons of huge changes from the comic, and I’d never describe the LB comic as a perfectly good story. I didn’t like it much at all. Great concept, bad execution. Second half got a little better, but I was already locked into so many major decisions from the first half which hurt the story.

I really gotta start going back to my ceremony researching sometime… That’s fascinating, seeing how people from different places define how people get married.
April 7th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Ha! People make me laugh and this comic makes me laugh a lot. I give the creator props on realism I think its cool. But you know what I could care less if they have to kill a cow drink blood or do the hula hoop it is a funny comic and most of what is in it is very funny and believable even if it is not real which most all of it is on some level. The only think I hate about this comic is that there are not 10 pages produced a day. But I think I can live with it since I don’t have a choice or millions to throw at the creator to do nothing my entertain me 24/7.
Keep them coming and I will keep on coming. I visit your site 3 times a day to see if there is an update. Great comic great ideas and great art.
Thank you very much!

To the person posting as “Saturday” (comment deleted at his strange request) with the fake e-mail address and the disgusting lies: There’s no reason to think that Rebecca (in the comic) doesn’t know how marriage works in America. There’s no reason to think she’s not at least partly joking by saying they’re probably not married. And under no possible circumstance could anyone say this comic is racist in any way unless they’re just assholes like you and Uncertain (who probably was you) trying to be evil pieces of shit on purpose.
“Googling something is no substitute for in-depth research and a visit to the people you are depicting.”
What the hell are you talking about? On almost every comments page in the past month I’ve posted this link –
http://youtube.com/watch?v=meEz3qV_RRc
A 20-minute in-depth look at the women of Umoja, which I’ve seen about 10 times now all for a four-page scene where the Umoja women have almost no dialogue and where Stasia and friends are simply dropping off some aid to them. But you want me to GO TO UMOJA before writing the scene and you say Google isn’t enough. I’ve also seen this several times –
http://youtube.com/watch?v=V7RIaroskuU
And I’ve seen several other videos on Umoja and I’ve read every single thing there is to read about Umoja on the entire internet. I’ve probably spent over 20 hours researching Umoja. Most other writers in my place writing a similar story probably would have spent zero minutes researching any of this and they’d just feature some random boring tribe based on whatever their current perception of a Kenyan tribe might be. It took several hours of research on Kenya in general before I even found Umoja, and then I was so interested in them and liked Rebecca so much that I decided to feature them and her in the comic.
So when some piece of shit says I’ve made stuff up for the sake of humor to make Kenyans look silly and stupid, I’m gonna call them “some piece of shit,” just like I’m gonna call you a piece of shit for supporting that person and telling me that I’m racist because of my writing in this comic. You act so shocked by my anger. What the fuck is shocking about being pissed off at someone who says you’re making shit up in your writing when you made up nothing? What’s shocking about being upset at someone who calls you a racist when you did nothing racist in any way and when you were trying to support the people, not belittle them? Ugh, people like you make me sick.
There’s a decent chance that a big budget movie of “Marry Me” will be made soon and one reason that I put Umoja in there was in the hopes that they’d actually be featured in the film and would be helped tremendously from that, which would help all the other women’s only tribes in Kenya as well.
Anyway, you’re the devil.

Heh. I’m working on launching my own comic project sometime in the next year. I sent my artist to this comic. Mostly to read it because I think it’s awesome, but also to convince her that I should be the one to moderate the forums when we set up the website.
Wasn’t her favorite comic (we both look for very different things in a comic, don’t be offended, I still adore it.) But reading these posts did convince her that I should handle the forums.
Mission accomplished.

Bobby, thou art likened to a GOD in my eyes! You, simply rule. Very little else I can say other than that….
So, once again, you are the greatest! Thank YOU for speaking your mind. Not enough people have the balls to do what you do and say.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Hahaha, oh man, you are awesome Bobby. I would also ban anyone who told me to chill out (I HATE THAT!!!). Also, post more! Go go go!
April 8th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
Bobby did you ask the Umoja’s women and especially Rebecca if they wanted such a press ?
I read carefully your explanation and I know you wish them all the best but they don’t necessarily want to appear in an American comic and even less in a big movie.
If for the second an authorisation / participation will be asked, for the comic you are violating personnality rights of Rebecca if you got no agreement to do so :/
April 8th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Bobby, This is not my usual style of comic but I am enjoying the hell out of it. Keep up the good work with this and LB.
April 8th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
JEEZ. So you didn’t watch any of the YouTube videos or read ANYTHING about Umoja? They want as many tourists as possible to make as much money as possible. They sell cool beaded necklaces, among other things. Watch the damn videos. Just the fact that they consented to all those interviews from foreign press and consented to have documentaries made about them proves that you’re saying nonsense.
Rebecca’s own words:
“We formed a village so that we could protect one another and market our village as a tourist attraction. We charge tourists a 300-shilling ($4) fee, which covers lectures and a tour.
Some men set up their own village nearby to block the road and stop tourists from coming here. Once, 30 warriors came to beat us in front of the tourists so that they would think this place is corrupt. We decided we had to buy this land so that the men could not drive us away. The land was 200,000 shillings ($2,700), and we saved for four months for the down payment. One tourist came and bought 20,000 shillings ($270) worth of trinkets. Another time, five busloads of tourists came, and when they heard our story, they purchased many things from us.”
Obviously the comic isn’t going to result in much tourism, if any (probably none), but a big movie certainly could if they were in it.
I knew someone would try to say something like Rushee just did. And I certainly don’t need permission to feature them in the comic. If they sue me, I promise to give you every penny I make for the rest of my life.
Also, in the magazine Essence, a female journalist from Nairobi said this of Rebecca: “She says it’s easy to ignore a group of uneducated women crying out from distant African dust lands, but she’s determined to make the world look.”

I was going to say dun dun dunnnnn!!! but Alicia beat me to it.”
LOL…sorry ;D
And Bobby, I understand your frustration about being asked if you let Rebecca/her fellow villagers know about the comic. However, I think it’d be cool if you did try to contact them about it. (Or maybe just trying to get the message out by commenting as such on the youtube videos) They’d probably appreciate the efforts/advertisement.
Sorry, just me musing…^^;;
Absolutely can’t wait for the next update *_*

Do not listen to anonymous.
Well I mean listen to anons, but do not listen to the person posting under the name of anonymous because real anons do not do that.
I do not believe your rules allow me to say what he is, but it is enough to say he is an obvious new anon.
You really have to understand Legions recent influx of useless users claiming to be us to understand just how annoying I found that man’s comment.
Anyways, love your writing, and everything Remy draws always turns out beautiful, and of course I’m waiting for the next page. ^_^
April 9th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
everyone’s saying they want the on-stage marriage to be legit. I reckon it could be just as cool if it wasn’t. That way, they get to fall in love proper-like and get a do-over on the wedding… maybe or maybe not by slaughtering a bull in a hut.
Speaking of which, where’s Ana and Janny’s mom at again?
April 9th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Died 20 years ago, revealed on Page 54. Charity center named after her.
April 9th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
*quietly happy* I was having a rather bad day, and then came here and saw the new page. Brilliant, guys. And thanks.
April 9th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
I’m kind of wondering if, at some point, Ana’s going to realize what a great guy Guy is, and decide that she doesn’t need him to go through the rest of the hoops she had planned.
It’s obvious that he’s a pretty decent guy. I can understand the concept of her not knowing him and wanting to be sure that he’s golden, but really, he doesn’t know her, and he’s not putting her through everything. I realize that’d make the plotline about three months shorter, though.
But there’s a part of me that’s wishing someone would be putting Ana through the wringer, too.
April 10th, 2008 at 7:51 am
I recently discovered this comic and I am so glad I did! It makes me happy!
April 10th, 2008 at 11:48 am
“Obviously the comic isn’t going to result in much tourism, if any (probably none), but a big movie certainly could if they were in it.”
WOW, Bobby, I never thought there was an intention other than delivering a great comic here. If this does get adapted into a movie, and the village benefits from it. Then You and Eisu should get some kind of humanitarian award, or at least recognition, for your efforts here.

Almost done writing new LB page now — hopefully up by Monday. Almost certainly a new MM by Monday too (wrote it yesterday). Long way to go on the LB movie stuff — I’ll give proper updates on the site as they become available”
I’ve been checking back everyday since Monday…..

(Barrage of pages coming soon. I’ve already seen the art for 71.)
April 11th, 2008 at 9:14 am
Hey Bobby, or anyone, did you already mention how many pages will Marry Me have? just curious
great work as always, you both have me hooked.
April 11th, 2008 at 9:51 am
Hope the next page is posted before Monday. This thing is fun to read.
April 11th, 2008 at 11:32 am
“Hey Bobby, or anyone, did you already mention how many pages will Marry Me have?”
Page 64 blog post said “Gotta go to print by late May, so you can expect about 25 pages in the next two and a half months.” So by the power of deductive reasoning I’d say it’s safe to assume the graphic novel will run for another 21 pages or so.
April 11th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
21 is sooo not enough.. but it’s OK.
Thanks for keeping us updated on whats happenin’, Bobby!
April 11th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
““Her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Anastasia of Russia (Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova, (Russian: Великая Княжна Анастасия Николаевна Романова (June 18 [O.S. June 5] 1901 — July 17, 1918), was the youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, the last sovereign of Imperial Russia, and his wife Alexandra Fyodorovna.”
Maybe you’ve heard of her? The last Romanov. They made a cartoon about her. Some people believe that she and her little brother Alexei actually survived the Russian Revolution. Her mom knew Grigori Rasputin. You know Rasputin? The mad monk/priest they tried to kill like 15 times? Please say you have some idea what I’m talking about…”
Some years back they claimed to have found the burial site of the Romanov family; They also claimed to have found the bodies of children in the site. I believe they also DNA-tested them and that they matched..
Sorry, don’t have the time to look it up right now.
Hopefully that won’t get me assaulted by the cult of JFGI.
“Anyway, you’re the devil.”
*laugh*
Also, I’m not sure any piece of literature has ever made me laugh as continuously as this one. Expect me to be one of the first in line for the movie. ^_^

Bobby, you rock!
I hate forum retards. It’s like some people feel the need to throw their ignorance in your face. It’s bad enough you have to deal with that kind of person in your daily life, but to go through making such a good comic and then have it butchered by some nobody who just wants someone to take shit out on… it’s just too rough.
This is your site, you comic, your rules. Blocking someone’s posts because they’re a **** is a perfectly legit thing to do! Criticism should be constructive if it’s going to be handed out. Some people are just freaking ridiculous.
I check Marry Me every day in my webcomic routine. I know it doesn’t update as often as others, but I prefer quality over quantity! And this is damn good quality!
April 12th, 2008 at 2:40 am
Cue the emergence of “slaughtering the bull” as the English language’s newest euphemism.
April 12th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
CHICKEN~
April 12th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Merserve: I actually have to respectfully disagree. I understand it’s his site and rules, but it does seem to me like some (not all) of the people blocked were genuinely polite and trying to give constructive criticism, whereas there were posts replying to them (not referring to Bobby’s) that were much ruder and more disparaging than the originals.
I enjoy Marry Me and check back frequently, and have enjoyed Last Blood, and yes, I did Google Umoja, but I’ve also done some things truly ridiculous occasionally where I posted first and didn’t think to Google it. I do think that at least some of the people who have been blocked have not been total idiots and haven’t deserved some of the names they’re being called here.
In any case, I apologize for voicing this, but it’s been eating at me for a while and I felt the need to say it.
April 12th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
“some (not all) of the people blocked were genuinely polite and trying to give constructive criticism”
If your next comment doesn’t include a solid example of that, you’ll be banned, but you’ll probably be banned either way, since it’s impossible to give a solid example of that.
April 12th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
Um. After a re-read of this page’s comments, to clarify/summarize my earlier points (I wasn’t the clearest), I simply think that everyone here does enjoy the comic, and that even if someone did get blocked, why call them names and insult them? :/
April 12th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Um, because they call me a racist for making up shit that I didn’t make up to make a race of people look bad when I didn’t do that at all? Seems like a pretty good reason to me! If you’re against bad names and insults in general, then don’t read these comments obviously.
Also, you’re extremely wrong about everyone here enjoying the comic. Tons of people comment here just because they hate me.
April 12th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
I’ve been reading the comments for quite a while now, and a lot of people love you. Even I do, I’m just disagreeing with something.
Well, I don’t want to be banned (like I said, I really do enjoy your comic), but to take Uncertain’s comment, for example, he was genuinely trying to help. He loved your comic (and probably you
). He didn’t do his research completely, but I really don’t think, from reading his comment, that he meant to come off as calling you a racist.
(By the way, kudos on doing such good research on it! Not many authors I know do.
)
April 12th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
Uncertain said that it’s in really bad taste how I’m treating the culture. It’s one thing to not do basic research when you’re saying some random pointless thing — it’s another thing to not do your research when you’re saying someone’s acting in really bad taste with how they’re treating a culture. If he simply said that he had never heard of that kind of wedding ceremony and had never heard of blood drinking, we’d obviously have NO PROBLEM ON ANY LEVEL. The problem is that he basically said I’m being racist (didn’t use the word, but it was VERY STRONGLY IMPLIED) for the sake of humor. If you didn’t understand that, then you simply are really bad at comprehending things. Also, I let him say his nonsense twice before banning him, and keep in mind that his complaint about the blood drinking makes no sense on any level, since none of the Africans even drank blood in the comic! Only super white people drank blood! So he’s just saying PURE NONSENSE.
April 13th, 2008 at 12:46 am
whoo-boy. Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything! Poor Bobby’s head’s going to explode over this issue! I didn’t mean to offend anyone, so sorry if I did Crystal. This is the first time I read the forum of any of the Marry me comics, and i just wanted to explain how I felt. I do agree with Bobby though.
And even I have accidentally posted and then realized I was wrong. But uncertain didn’t help himself out of this mess. He made a sort of… attempt. But it didn’t cover all his/her/its bases.
Oh well.
April 13th, 2008 at 2:27 am
I am going to agree that you could be more tactful in the handling of morons, Bobby.
I don’t think you should, but you could be. The only benefit is that it takes a lot less effort to copy/paste “[insert name], you are mistaken. Please to be knowing what you are talking about next time.”
As to Guy’s reaction: Maybe, having a lesbian best friend and all, he’s aware that not all marriage ceremonies are considered valid in all societies. If he didn’t perform the ceremonial slaughtering of the bull, then maybe he’s not married in that village. I know more than one man who endured a Catholic wedding because otherwise his wife wouldn’t consider herself married. My parents have a common-law Texas marriage, which posed problems when trying to buy a house in California. If Guy is familiar with these issues, then perhaps the comment only reminded him that legality is really secondary to perception and intent at this point.
April 13th, 2008 at 5:59 am
Is it just me, or are all the people telling Bobby to lighten up on the morons just as annoying as the morons? Seriously, drop it you fuck-tards. It’s his forum, and he allows vulgarity, arguments, etc, what he doesn’t allow is dumb-fucks insulting him (note: calling an insult “criticism” doesn’t make it any less of an insult, it makes you an idiot), and blasting him with blatant lies and ridiculous accusations. If you have an issue with this, then shut the fuck up and stop reading the comments.
April 13th, 2008 at 6:40 am
So, I was reading this comic, and I thought “Something doesn’t seem right, maybe this guy is RACIST” but then I thought “Rock, everything you’ve ever learned about Africa came from the Powerthirst video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRuNxHqwazs)”
So then I shut up and enjoyed the comic. I’m glad I didn’t say anything, I tend to look like an idiot when I post online anyway.
April 13th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
Marry Me is well written and well drawn I give it a 10.
April 13th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Woot, go Micah!
April 14th, 2008 at 1:59 am
Hey bobby I was just wondering if Stasia is left or right handed? I know it doesn’t really affect the story in any way at all but the last two panels make it look like she is.
April 14th, 2008 at 2:02 am
look like she is left handed that is
April 14th, 2008 at 2:03 am
Never thought about it, don’t know.
April 14th, 2008 at 7:11 am
I’d guess it would really change depending on the actress who’ll be playing her when Marry Me hits filming.
April 14th, 2008 at 8:58 am
They found the burial ground of the Romanov family, and there was a missing skeleton. None of the skeletons fit Anastasia’s description. Also, a woman, driven to insanity, was found at Ellis Island claiming to be Anastasia. After interviewing her, it was found that she knew things that only a true Romanov would know, such as background and events that only the upper crust would know about. She later died in a mental institution.
And by the way Bobby, love the comic! I hope it turns into a movie so I can see it, along with LB
April 14th, 2008 at 11:32 am
Im alittle surprised they havent gotten into the african garb just yet.
:’3
what is it they are eating? It looks like cow? Raw?

@ Sierra Monroe: You managed to pull it off nicely. :3
I consider everyone to be left-handed. Otherwise, I’d feel like the odd man out.
